I have been trying self hypnosis for about three weeks now and although I can relax more each time I try it, I still find myslf thinking about other stuff. How much practice is required before I know if I can do self hypnosis?

Just noticed your question buried in all the garbage we get around here so I apologize for being soooo very late with an answer.
How long will it take? Most likely about forever on your own. It could be compared to reading some medical books and then deciding to do your own heart by-pass surgery. Bad idea, huh?
You have two options for self-hypnosis:
1. Make an appointment with a certified hypnotist/hypnotherapist to teach it to you. One session -- really fast -- really easy and then it is tested out various times before you leave. You will also be advised on how to make suggestions so they will work for you.
2. Take an in-person training and ask your instructor teach it to the class. NOTE: Not all instructors know how to do this so if this is one of your main goals, make sure to ask if it is covered before you put up the money.
