Hi, I am brand new to the forum but not to hypnosis. I will probably be on here quite a bit from now on.
I have come across a problem. Hypnosis has always gone great for me but lately I have had some troubles. It seems many of the people I hypnotize lately will not follow suggestions. I can easily put them to sleep, I can do numerous tests on them and they will all work, for example the hand magnet test, or hand glue test, ect...
When give them a simple suggestion like once they open their eyes they will find the room has become more cold then it was before, anything simple like that, they will not feel it. This has happened to the last 3 or 4 people I have hypnotized and I have never really had a problem with it before. 2 of these people know me very well and 2 don't, same results.
I guess I am more or less wondering if this is a fluke, or if maybe I am suggesting things in the wrong fashion. I would love some suggestions and or comments. Thanks alot.

First, your client is not going to sleep -- they are going into trance. The proper way to test is by testing for catelpsy -- 1. eyes, 2. arm, 3. large muscle groups (how do you spell that word??). As your induction(s) don't seem to be working very well, I would highly suggest you learn many, many more as in hypnosis not one fits all!

Ah well, perhaps they are facinated by your handsome appearance, and distracted from your suggestions?

I respectfully disagee, Poodle,
>The proper way to test...
They are optional ways to test, but not necessarily 'The proper way to test'.
Try not to become obsessed with testing. If what you are doing is working then you are doing it right.

I have always been told that everybody is open to suggestion, but if a person really doesn't want something to happen then it won't, make sure that you get a good agreement state, you know you have one because they let you put them into trance,
ask questions while the client is in trance, they can answer you verbally or non-verbally (by movement of a finger,, etc) questions like "can you do this Now " is the answer is yes then you have a result if not then find out the reason.
But keep the faith,, i always maintain that confidence plays a gvery big part in NLP and Hypnosis if you are confident in yourself then the clients are confident in you keep going you are doing Great.

Thanks so much for your replies.
I agree, confidence is key and I will take all of you suggestions into consideration.
But for now, its christmas and I am not going to do anything but eat turkey and drive back to my hometown to be with my family.
Merry Christmas everyone and I'll see you in the New Year.

Sorry, wanted to add one more thing.
My age may play a small problem because people may not trust me as well as they may have to. I'm only 21 years old and am self taught. I only ever hypnotize freinds or family and have helped alot of them accomplish great things like my brother quitting smoking etc...
My problems started after I moved to Edmonton, which was only a month ago. I am new here and people may not beleive that I can do this but still let me try. I still only do it to freinds, but I am getting certified starting in may at a school called Success and More. Its apparently a very good school and I'm very excited.
Anyways, talk to everyone later.
The problem, in part, may be that your friends know you as their friend rather than as an expert hypnotist.
Start charging them for hypnotherapy and their attitude will change.

Lyle, a piece of advice if I may. Never blame external conditions for a problem until you have investigated all other avenues. The fact that you are self trained for example showed loud and clear in your posts, so would also be evident to those you worked with, and likely cause them to be cautious of you and your limited skills.

Congratulations for deciding to receive proper training and learning how to do it correctly. I'm quite sure you will be amazed and will find it to be a life altering experience while at the same time a heck of a lot of fun. Your age will have nothing to do with it once you have all those nice framed certifications around. Hypnosis is also a "game of perception" as the usual piece of paper takes four years and you will have many so the average person is going to think: WOW! This person is really, really good because they have so many framed diplomas and certifications. I would suggest that you also include NLP in your training. NLP works great alone on certain situations and is wonderful to use with hypnosis and I would also add Time Line Therapy too. I feel it is wonderful that you are doing this at a young age as you will have a whole life to expand, learn and help. There is nothing more fantastic in the world than helping a person to become all s/he can be. Good luck and let us know how it all went.

Thanks for all your advice, im very excited to take my courses. I'll keep NLP in mind as well, I have done much reading and practicing with it and it has done nothing but good.
I am also scheduled to take my Reiki levels 1 and 2 at the end of January, very excited.
Thanks for the support.
