<STRONG><EM>Hi, I am Christy and I am from NC. First I have to be upfront and tell you I am a recovering addict but have had panic and depressive disorders literally ALL my life. At this point, my fairly new therapist is trying to teach me some relaxation techniques. He hypnotized me the first time last week, I loved it, found it very relaxing and also stimulating. Couldnt wait to do it again. Today, we did it again. I found it harder to relax but did go under. At one point I very strongly felt the presence (I think female) of a person enter the room through the general area of the door but without making any noise, and then sit in a specific place (where there are no chairs, nevertheless I FELT her sitting there) in the room, to my left. Almost immediatly I felt a second presence enter who FELT almost identical to the first presence Id felt. Now they're both sitting there together, but I know it's impossible. But, I HAVE to open my eyes and LOOK. Nothing, of course. I hadn't felt that it had made me tense, but once I looked, I felt myself relax.

Hi Christy,

Please bring this up with your therapist. He is in the best position to
speak with you about your own personal experience.

It's not unusual for the imagination to express itself. -- A general
observation only, not specific to you, or to what took place in the
context of your working with your therapist. Again, speak to your
therapist abut your question.

Hi Christy,

Ask your hypnotherapist to ensure that the door is locked and no-one will be allowed to enter whilst you are in trance. Then, if you imagine people are entering you will know it for what it is.

Halucinations are not a problem, but would be of interest to your therapist, so my question would be, why are you asking us, when knowing about it might allow your therapist to better assist you in your recovery? If you feel embarrassed at the idea, don't be, it is normal for the subconcious to work in its own way, and for the therapist to use information you give him or her, in such a manner as to be personal to you and your treatment.. Do not use this board as an outlet to second guess your therapist, it can be damaging to the help you are paying for......

I would be very curious to know if they choose to show up at your next session.

What was your sense of what they were there for?

Hi Christy,

I found someone appeared next to me as I took myself down into a trance yesterday. You are not alone! The difference between your story and mine is I asked him what he wanted. Good luck with your therapy. x

Missy And he replied, "Yuoooooo" eh? Don't worry, he was probably the ghost of Christmas Past and was just waiting until you passed out... I just got a visit from Christmas Present, and he left one for me....

Hi,

Phenomena like that is not out of the ordinary. I've taken ilegal drugs and was able to build hallucinations like those pretty easily and without much drugs. Just a few weeks ago, in a trance with audio tapes I felt an imaginary hypnotist tap me in the back so I would pay a little bit more attention than I was paying already. Lol, I also saw some pretty far out images before that so the tap in the back was pretty normal.

It might be some kind of neurological characteristic of your brain at this time. Don't worry about it. As these guys said, tell your therapist about it. He'll check for it during the session and will be able to work it into his technique for your benefit. If he doesn't, then he's less useful than your tripping out. Lol.

Have a great day.

Terry (existing),

I'm sorry I don't understand your post. Would you please explain, or were you cracking a joke?

Cheers,

Missy

Ok, first thing I did whwn the session was over was tell my therapist. He seemed way lesss than surprised, and said that although he dosen't know what to make of it, things like that just happen from time to time. He just wanted to know that I was not frightened or anything, and I wasn't. He said hids own guess was a broken barrier between this and a parallel universe, and laughingly said that he knew it sounded strange but was as good an explanation as anyone else had. Not to worry, bbut let him know if things like that happen again. So far they haven't. I just really wondered if he was for real in saying that these things happen from time to time, I certainly dont want to be the only weirdo walking around with this experience, and my therapist secretly noting, "ok, total fruitcake" in his notes!

christy,

What could you do if that WAS what he thought? :)

Some people interpret these things as imagination, some as spirit guides, some as guardian angels, some as ...

Me, I try to utilize everything, and since we dont know for sure what they are, decide for yourself what they are and how you would best like to view it.

Hi Missy! Hello nice to meet you. I am often not good at explaining things. No, it was not a joke. Have you ever in a book or movie heard the expression "I FELT a presence" usually refering to one that no one can see or otherwise verify exists, nevertheless, the presence is "felt" by some 6th sense that makes the presence quite real to the person who felt it? I have had such an experience before, maybe twice in my life. Anyway, while under hypnosis, with the door close and no one present but my therapist and I, I "felt" the presence of two women enter the room and I felt them watching me. Even though I knew it was impossible, I was compelled to open my eyes and see for myself. Of course, there was no one there. I told my therapist right after the session, he said he had seen that before in patients and didn't know "what to make of it" but was certain it was harmless. Since I am fairly new to hypnosis (5 sessions) I wanted to see if I could find anyone to talk to who experienced anything even remotly similar. I found it cool in it's own way. But it hasn't happened again so far.

Hi Christy,

It wasn't your post I was confused about, it was Terry's.

My first post was my response to your "has anyone else experienced this"... Yes I have and I was simply trying to say that it was nothing to worry about in my opinion.
