Dear MD, they should be able to handle it better then us ordinary mortals...
Jacko, there is a challenge faced by hypnotherapists known as "falling into the client's trance." If you're not familiar with it, the basic idea is that a client can be so enthused and believing a certain set of concepts, that it can win over even an experienced hypnotherapist. Rather than seeing the client objectively and trying to help the client come to where they hypnotherapist would like to guide the client, the hypnotherapist ends up going along with what the client is presenting. This makes helping the client very difficult as rather than coming from the viewpoint of a hypnotherapist, he or she approaches the client from the clients own view.
It is important that a hypnotherapist understands a client's view and beliefs, but if the hypnotherapist adopts the client's view and beliefs it may prevent the hypnotherapist from providing adequate guidance.
it doesn't happen that a client comes in and bang!, the hypnotherapist immediately falls into the client's trance. Rather, it takes some time, involvement (rather than objectivity) during the preinduction interview, and some strong (usually unconscious) rapport skills on the part of the client. Essentially, the hypnotherapist changes from the role of an assistant and guide to that of a commiserating friend.
The same thing can happen in a hypnotherapist's personal life. He or she knows what to do to prevent/overcome depression. However depression doesn't suddenly manifest. Rather, it can slowly build. In a sense, then, hypnotherapists can fall into a depression trance (or frustration trance, anxiety trance, etc.) just as easily as anyone else.
The difference between a hypnotherapist and a non-hypnotherapist is that the hypnotherapist--upon realizing that he or she is in an unwanted trance--has (or should have) the skills necessary to get out of that trance and return to the trance of being a hypnotherapist.
So the answer, IMO, is that indeed, hypnotherapists can become depressed, anxious, frustrated, etc. Hypnotists are just mortals, too, and should be strongly reprimanded any time they forget it. (I have a copy of the book Nightmare Alley that I read whenever I get the feeling that I'm better than other people.) However the hypnotherapist, upon realizing the situation (and he or she may understand what is happening more quickly than non-hypnotists), is more likely to quickly leave those states than is someone with no training.
YMMV

It may be more important to ask if NLPers get these negative emotions as we are supposed to be much better equipped to deal with them. A little story here. Dr. Richard Bandler's wife died and Richard really, really loved that woman, next his mother died, next his dog up and died and lastly Richard was in the hospital for an extended period of time and the Docs told him he would NEVER WALK AGAIN. None of the above fits with the mindset of a great NLPer so he came out of those experiences better than when he went in.
Last year Skip's father and my mother died and then both of our beloved dogs died. How did we handle these situations? With dignity and grace and now both of us have "new" dogs. We live in the NOW as yesterday is gone forever and tomorrow isn't here yet so what good would those negative feelings do for us right now. One can always place a resourceful goal in the future and work now towards that goal until it is reached.

yup
we're human
"Dear MD, they should be able to handle it better then us ordinary mortals... "
Now that is a very interesting belief!
Does it apply across the board in your world, or just to hypnotists?
Preachers should never sin...
Doctors should never get sick ...
Mechanics cars never need repair ...
And politicians would never betray the public trust ...
Where did you come up with a belief like that and do you apply that ame criteria in your own life?
In other words, in your life, "Do the cobblers children have shoes?"
And Jacko if someone fails your criteria, I mean that is a pretty high pedistal, does that mean that they are icapable of helpin others?

yup
we're human
Merlin, aren't you excluded? Most humans don't live on Avalon or for as long as thou!;D

Merlin is only part "human" and the remainder "angelic" so this must explain the long life at Avalon.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to live up to Jacko's expectations. Geez, I would not need surgery this fall and my gigantic hospital and doctor bills from last January would not have existed. Just a fast swipe of Merlin's magic wand and all would be well. (She lets me borrow it on occasion when it's sparkler is working.)

I had a similar question when I first found this forum and hypnosis. I asked if they were all superman, wonderwoman, specimens of perfection using these tools to help themselves. As I recall, the answer was "no," that the cobbler doesn't always have time to work on shoes for himself.

The island of Avalon is a place. Google it, there's a lot of references to it.

I'm mostly human.
aging is just a lack of healing
it's from a faulty belief, imprinted.

Pood,
pick a time when you were healthy, say age 23.
regress to then.
have your mind rebuild the body to match the 23 year old you

Do you know about King Arthur, the Knights of the Roundtable and Lancelot that lived in Camelot? Avalon is in Camelot and Camelot is in England. Avalon is an island bathed in mist and clouds. In the 1960's there was also a spectacular Broadway play about it just entitled Camelot. I can still hear that music today in my mind. If you have not read the story, I highly encourage you to do so.
Be well~Pood :)
Dost not time move more slowly on Avalon? Ergo, although you may have been in this dimension for longer than I, your actual age is what, maybe 22 or 23. Certainly not more than 24...

and that's exactly how I ended up in the hospital last Jan. "croaking" 5 times. I "played" MD and misdiagnosed myself. I "fix" nothing without a referral from my physician. I'm not really sure as to when this current problem came about. I know I had it to some extent in high school and perhaps even before that. The Docs just say congenital -- thanks Mom and Dad, plus a nasty fall plus a few other things. The surgeons have already been in there and done too much damage. Not really sure my mind could overcome all they have done. I don't know how to do TLT with "self".
One of the things I fully believe in is the concept of ecology. When that comes to healing, that includes effectiveness, speed of effectiveness, the least amount of invasiveness to achieve an optimum level of effectiveness, and doing no harm. Sometimes, when harm has already been done, it requires a physical "roto-rooter" to clean things out so that more non-invasive techniques can be effective.
If my arm is broken, I welcome a physician who knows how to set the arm and put it in a cast. If I want to change a behavior or belief I work with hypnotherapy and/or NLP. Together, all of those things are better, IMO, than relying on one to the detriment of the others.
Good luck on the work that needs to be done!
