Can hypnotism work even if you can't relax or if your so relaxed you fall asleep? I went to a community education sponsored stop smoking group hypnosis but I am not sure if it worked, I tried to listen to the lady and follow what she said but I have trouble paying attention to people and things for long periods of time so after a short while I started thinking about other things (mostly about how cold I was) and didn't hear everything she said and could'nt get as relaxed as I feel I should have been, also everyone got a self-hypnosis tape of the session to bring home and listen to, I listened to it last night before bed and this morning and both times I fell asleep, also how many time does it take before the suggestions take hold, the session was to help me not want to smoke but even after the class I still want to, I mean I don't want to but my body still does.

Since hypnosis is not relaxation and relaxation is not needed for hypnosis, yes.

As soon as you light up, you'll know.

One if done right.

I felt a little guilty about lighting up but other than that not much different. Will my desire to smoke lessen the more I listen to my self hypnosis tape?

I felt a little guilty about lighting up but other than that not much different. Will my desire to smoke lessen the more I listen to my self hypnosis tape? Nobody can answer that question for you. For some, a tape might be adequate, and for others it won't work at all. Sadly however, since you say you have difficulty concentrating, it would seem that a tape is not the best method for you. That means you may find it takes many uses before you see any effect, if ever. A good therapist might be a better choice if you can find one. Meantime, keep listening to the tape, and who knows...

In a group audience the hypnotist is able to capture approximately 93% of the audience. In my practice, smoking cessation is EIGHT SESSIONS and I am NOT willing to take anyone as a client that is not wanting to quit smoking. I can plant the seed but you are eventually in control of your own behavior. I am only the guide. And, yes, hypnosis does work when one is asleep or awake as the subconscious hears when one is asleep too. I would highly suggest that you save your money for personal sessions with a certified hypnotherapist so that you will accomplish your goal. Do you realize how foolish it is to go to a group hypnotist and pay good money and then come home and "light up" paying more good money?? I also like to throw some NLP into play in my sessions also to make sure all the "parts" are in compliance with the desired behavior and know what they will be doing after the undesired behavior ceases. Also different inductions work differently on different people. You are one person, not a group, so you could very well need a different induction to achieve the results you need.

I have realized over the last few days that even though I still want to smoke the urge is less, like usually if I run out at night and can't get to the store till the next day I feel anxious and run around the house trying to find enough tobacco to make a smoke for the next morning but the other night when I ran out it did'nt bother me and it has been easier to go for longer periods between smokes, like I usualy got the urge for another smoke about an hour after having one, since the class it has been easy to go a few hours with out wanting one.
