is there a test that is unfakeable that will show you that they are amnesic?
I know that someone will disagree, but somnambulism is defined by many as the hypnotic state in which we have amnesia and anesthesia by suggestion. First, if you are referring to the Elman induction, I do not know why the client say the numbers are gone and this is not true (actually it happened to me and the answer may be compliance, boredom etc.). You can test if they are in somnambulism. Both Merlin and Poodle provided a method I frequently use (pupil dilatation). But there are many.

Just today I had a gentlemen. He is very difficult to work with even for ME! First I did an instant and took him pretty deep. Then I added in a little Elman just for good measure. Part of this was for mental relaxation. He got to 82 I think before they were ALL GONE. You need to keep encouraging each number -- doubling that relaxation, pushing it out of your mind and the rest will follow. You can do this. Thaaaat's right.... Someone gave you a business card five years ago. What did you do with it. Who was it. It's perfectly fine to forget things that do not matter and right now those numbers matters little if at all .for every single number....and your mind, so relaxed, so calm, just like a beautiful serene lake. I'm also not sure if it is mentioned by Elman that the numbers are spoken on an out-breathe. Eventually, they will stop but if the client gets too far, switch inductions and change the mental relaxation to "our little house". Men especially relate to that one. There is also rolling of the hands to take the client deeper if needed.
And lastly, ask if there are any numbers left and when finished put all the numbers back. Remember to put back that which you take away. It need not be numbers. You could have the client do the alphabet backwards -- much more difficult to fake.
You are doing well learning from books. You are very smart and for that reason I would LOVE to see you in a class with other students to work on and with. It need not be a long one. Even a three day class is a great starter. You can always go back for more later.
Out of all the people that try to dig things out of a book on this Forum, you are the only one I can remember seeing that has great potential.
So, Conca, what are you going to do after the inductions? Therein comes the work. How are you going to communicate with their inner-mind?

thank you very much, that made me feel so warm inside and thank you so much for answering all my questions that i have asked (there has been a lot) i will definately go to a class and practice hypnosis when i'm older but the problem is i'm 15 and i can't afford to risk my exam results at the moment.
i took up hypnosis because anything to do with psychology is interesting to me and i'm going to go into psychotherapy when i'm older anyway so hypnosis fits in nicely. also i want to help relieve stress from my girlfriend and my parentsand help them overcome things like becoming confident in their appearance and depression.
so again thank you pood, im so glad you told me that because no-one i know can do hypnosis so there's no-one to talk to about it which is why i have so many questions.

is the pupil dilation test the one where you tell them they're in a dark room and shine a torch into their eyes and see if they dilate? cuz i'd probably need something a bit more subtle.

what i'm saying here is:
When they count back from 100 and stop i ask them if they're all gone and they say yes but i don't believe them. what i need is a test that will prove to me that they have gone.
i don't really have much confidence and i've heard that you need confidence to pull it off but to get confidence i'll need to do it right and to do it right i need confidence. viscious cycle.

I thought I read your age was 18. In that case you cannot go to a training even if Mum would pay for it. Maybe I need "my readers", huh? At the age of 15 my advice would be to leave it alone until you are somewhat older.
Hypnosis and psychology really do not go well together most of the time. One cannot serve two masters. In fact, if you read the history of hypnosis you will know why or you can do a search on the Forum as we have discussed it before. There are always exceptions to this and I am specifically naming Dr. Ernest Rossi, not to mention the owner of this little ole Forum here, Dr. Matt James.
