Hey. My name's Tony, I'm 15 and I've just joined here and have just become interested in hypnotism. I do magic as a hobby, and one day looking through a magic shop I noticed a hypnotism book called Mastering Hypnosis... Sorry in advance if the post seems like a bit of an essay :)

So I picked up a hypnotism book just over 2 days ago... and I read most of which it had to offer, printing off the induction script, slightly modifying (sp?) it to what I had read, such as the use of repetition and stuff. I printed off some tests, such as eyes wide shut (cant open eyes) and others to see their levels in hypnosis, as well as some of the ideas that it had to offer for stage hypnosis, as after all it was what the book was intended for.

I went to school yesterday after reading the book and decided to try it on my mate James from school. I read the script, but I tried my hardest to put emotion into the words, not just like some stereotypical teenager who reads in monotone. I did it, and he couldn't open his eyes with my first test, but was a lil freaked out and woke himself out. My drama teacher (so cool, by the way) then walked in and asked to be hypnotised. Being a little nervous, I hesitated but did it, and did some succesful tests such as eyes not opening and arms becomings stiff, then dropping to the side. I thought it was pretty cool at the time.

Then I went out with quite a few mates, some of which could sleep walk, and from what I had heard these showed sugns of somnambulistic (sp?) behaviour and I decided to try hypnotising them. I hypnotised one girl called amanda and made it so that she would be over affectionate for a minute after waking (some girl asked me to see if it would work, its not me trying to get anywhere) and also made her feet become hot after wakening after some other tests. Then I hypnotised a girl called Kerris. I told her that I would be chasing her after she woke up, but she could only run in slow motion, like walking pace. She woke up before I could say anything about returning to normal state, and couldnt run. I thougnt I would have to re-hypnotise her, so I did and told her she could run again, and she could.

Today, however, I tried hypnotising a person called Caroline. She showed signs of deeper hypnotism, as with the stiff arm test her arm fell immediately (so I have read, it shows deeper hypnotistic levels?) and told her she was moving down to a bed, going down 10 steps to get there, becoming more tired with every step etc, and going down a lift from 25 stories, each story going down becoming more tired. Anyway, in the book I read about X-Ray glasses, and told her she was wearing them, and when I clicked my fingers everything would return to normal. Also, she would only respond to the name Emma until I clicked my fingers. I did this, and it worked great. I also did this to Kerris, and it worked alright, not failing.

To the point, I am wondering whether I could have pulled off this (the hallucinations, and even just hypnosis - only 1 in 20 are supposed to be hypnotised as a beginner?)? Or were the people just acting to make me feel better? I get the feeling they werent, as some people I tried hypnotising said it didnt work and the tests just didnt work, however I'm unsure. Also, is the information I written down here correct? And finally, have you found that females are more easily hypnotised?

Thanks once again for taking your time to read this, I know it's long, and I apologise for that.

Tony.

In hindsight, the message I wrote was probably not the nicest in terms of structure, so I'm just apologising for that now. It may seem a little confusing as I never seem to read anything before I post it, whether its a text message or a forum post.

Hello Tony,

The trance state is a voluntary state and it could be that your friends were being kind to you. It could also be that you know them so well that the level of rapport you have with them is so good that they did go into trance.

As for the hypnotisability of females; well, nearly everyone can be hypnotised, but it is likely that other males of your age will be more resistant to your attempts to 'control' them. Young females mostly think it a bit of a giggle and will go along with it unless you are doing something with which they feel uncomfortable, and then, boy, will you know it!

People, either male or female will only do whatever their subconscious believes is in their best interests, Not your, theirs.

The inventors of NLP gave us the following messages:

Richard Bandler - "Its all hypnosis".
John Grinder - "There's no such thing as hypnosis"

You may take your pick.

Hi Illusion,

Fun isn't it?
Welcome to the forum.

>To the point, I am wondering whether I could have pulled off this (the hallucinations, and even just hypnosis - only 1 in 20 are supposed to be hypnotised as a beginner?)?

Everyone can be hypnotised.

>only 1 in 20 are supposed to be hypnotised as a beginner?

That depends on your skills/methods used.
I wouldn't rely on the statistics.

> Or were the people just acting to make me feel better?

Occasionally one will.
But mostly you're being successful.

>I get the feeling they werent, as some people I tried hypnotising said it didnt work and the tests just didnt work, however I'm unsure.
>Also, is the information I written down here correct?

Seems to be.

>And finally, have you found that females are more easily hypnotised?

No.

Some advice:
Always ask permission of your subject first.
Sometimes new hypnotists get carried away and think they can hypnotise anyone, any time.
Keep practicing. The more you succeed, the more you'll gain confidence.
The more confidence you have, the more you'll succeed.

Go for it and have fun!

Hey, Im 15 too!

I remeber when I first found a hypnosis script, I went into school and did the same thing, but on lower levels, and less things. I worked with people so they were not able to move their leg and stuff. Then On a coach journy I got a bit carried away:

Someone had heard about my skills, and wanted to go, they'd seen stage hypnotists, on telly and thought it would be fun. I had never met this person before so I declined, however after several requests I agreed.

I did a very deep induction, in relation to my low skills and past experiences, and told him he would have the urge to play with people hair, I then got him to forget the entire session, and awoke him.

He was instantly quite freaked and had a blank look on his face, he looked really freaked out, I think the amnesia thing, might have done, or the vulnerability he might have felt becuase he didnt know me.

Anyway he started playing with a teachers hair who was sat in front of him, I pointed it out to him and he was like "wtf, why am I doing that?" and looked more freaked out. Anyway he went back to his seat, and I left him without removing the suggestions, Im not very proud of that.

After that I sort of stopped doing it in schools. Ive been practcing an arm levitation induction and might use that, but Ive learnt a lesson their, and Im going to be less gung ho.

Anyway, good luck!

However one thing I have learnt is not to be too worried. Take every precaution so you don't do any damage, but don't be too shy to push them while they're under (not to do something they don't want, but something that seems difficult to do). I owe quite a few faliures to an apoligetic persona in this field (BTW, I'm a month away from being 15 too ;) )

Cool, thanks for the advice and answers. It is actually pretty good, Im really enjoying it at the moment, and bearing in your advice about being ****y and taking away the suggestions after.

Im also wondering if I should carry on learning the eye fixation method, or try and learn some other methods. I mean, I know everybody has there own preferred style but I read that this was an old method and proved unstable or something, and Erickson uses passive suggestion, but just reading it i thought it was harder. I guess I just prefer being authorative, but thats not normally me, honest :)
