hi i'm really new to this area of thought but have been thinking alot about trying hypnotherapy in an attempt to allieve my irrationally bad habit of crying while under stress? under attack? or just plain being focused on @ times ... and since i'm going to try to cure this problem ,can i also work on weight and smokng at the same time? all the reading i have done seems to point toward 4-6 sessions for help depending on how much reinforcement is required to change the behavoirs in question... does that mean for each or combined or what? also i know you guys can't suggest someone but haven't received any responce from the guild or national place... know of anyone in wichita kansas that would have the right creditionals for me? if not should i be looking for hypnotherapist or nlp? dont really understand the differece. Thanks for your help:D

First, the possibility of working on more than one problem at the same time? Yes, this is possible, and may indeed save money and time for you. Secondly, the time factor? Four to six sessions is reasonable for many problems, and if it is less, the client is happy. We find that those who promise stop smoking in one session, may fall short and have an unhappy client on their hands. Weight requires at least six sessions in my opinion, but remember, the number of sessions is dependant on the personality of the client, not nescessarily the skill of the practitioner. There may be a problem buried deep, which negates against the removal of fat, which has been developed for reasons unknown to you, and which may need uncovering by the practitioner before there is actual loss. The mind is a very complicated mechanism, and time is of far less importance than doing the job successfully and permanently...... Work only with someone who is a member of a recognised Association or Society, since they can be held to account by that group, while anyone can practise hypnosis without too much training, or even non at all in some places.

thank you for that information I was alittle worried about that as one place I looked reported rates of $100.00 per session (unfortuanately located 600 miles away) which would be okay if I could work on several issues at one time...and it was closer to home. but that is not to be. Back to previous question of difference between nlp or hypnotherapist what should i be looking for?

In asking me that question, you are asking the wrong person. I was trained in hypnosis, practised hypnosis for thirty seven years, and still know little of NLP though I understand that it is a method taken from hypnosis and taught separately. From what I have been told, I use NLP as part of hypnosis without recognising that it is now separate, but other dimensions have been added which I know nothing of. I can tell you however, that my charges would be much higher. It would cost you $250.00 per session to bring me out of retirement, and that would guarantee you no more than six sessions to achieve what you want, or any more would be free.....

NLP or Hypnosis?
It depends on the individual therapist.
NLP is mostly a copy of the skills of others.
Much of NLP is hypnosis.
Seek the practitioner having experience in the changes you seek.
Doing several things at once works fine, though it might add one session total. There are too many variables to say what it might take in your case. We just don't know you or your issues well enough to say.

Is the crying a response of sadness? or something else? If there is underlying sadness, then NLP can be very effective in releasing negative emotions including Fear, Anger, Sadness and Guilt. Through the process learned in NLP called Timeline Therapy, negative emotions can be released within two days during a breakthrough session.
NLP was created from a variety of therapies that utilized the abilility to get more specific and more vague depending upon the problem. It's focus on the senses is of great value, as is the values system.

Hello Katy,
No one on here could diagnose what your crying represents because we do not know you and it would be ethically wrong to do so in this place.
Taken universally any unusual response whilst under stress is usually a sign of inner conflict. The key word is 'unusual' since what is unusual for some people may be perfectly usual for others.
It could be that the conflict, if there is one, is responsible for a whole load of current problems, perhaps apparently unrelated. Either hypnotherapy or NLP would help you to discover if this is the reality, but it could also be that the smoking, weight and crying issues are unrelated, in which case your therapist would deal with them as they presented. This might take many sessions or not. There's a free ebook at www.alphadynamics.com (http://www.alphadynamics.com/) which I have recommended before for stress related issues since it contains several exercises useful for the control of breathing I think you might find useful. I am not endorsing any of the products on this site but the ebook is free. You may also try EFT for your stress. A free manual is available at www.emofree.com (http://www.emofree.com/) but you may need to see a practitioner to get the hang of it.
