Hi
I have the following questions. I have done about three months of hypnosis to help me w/ my speech impediment problem. IT is not that noticable, only when I am nervous or if I am speaking another language- but sicne I am fluent in four languages, this is a problem. So, during the three month session, about once or twice a week, I didnt feel that I have benefitted. I am wondering how NLP can help someone with a speech impediment. I am really looking everywhere, I also go to another Spiritual Psychotherapist to help me out because he takes me to a 'regression state' but that has extreme effects on me afterwards- teh stuttering increases...so I am really at loss for resources. I read about NLP and just need to know if it can help w/ speech impediments such as stuttering. Please, someone let me know.
Thank you.
YOu can email me as well cherie_moocha@hotmail.com

Generally stuttering is state or context dependent. As you describe, it is relatively unnoticable except in certain instances.

An NLP practioner can teach you to find a 'state' where the stuttering is minimal or non existent, and to use/occupy that state when you are 'nervous' or speaking foreign languages.

Results should be instant and testable.

My experience with stuttering is limited, but I do know, both from personal experience, and from that of other members of HSA, that once in the trance state, the client ceases to stutter. That if they sing instead of talk, they don't stutter. This suggests that stuttering will not exist in a state of relaxation, or when breathing properly, as would happen when singing....
Any competent practitioner should be able to help you quickly, perhaps one session, or two at most........Terry

Hi Liza,

Sounds like you have lot's of unqualified help with your problem. Skip is right and so is Terry, but you need to find competent help. Stuttering results from either a lack of confidence or a fear to speak/express yourself. Sometimes it is apparent at all times and sometimes it is "state dependant". Since yours appears to be the latter, Skip is correct in that NLP can likely easily just "change" the response to that state. It is a rapid and powerful therapy. At the same time, a competent hypnotherapist can quickly help you but would perhaps use different techniques. Either will work and should not take but a session or two. Frankly, one should be enough.

If you have been using hypnosis for several months and the problem is not resolved, you need to change that therapist. Since the Spiritual Psychotherapist "took you to regression" and the problem got worse afterwards, that generally means that the real problem was exposed without being successfully dealt with. He/she too is therefore likely unqualified. There is vast difference in being able to "regress" someone, and knowing what to do with the state once you achieve it. Look for another therapist, question as too experience in working with your particular issues.

You might even consider posting a new thread here with your hometown as the name.

PS; Psychotherapy will not likely give you rapid results.

Paul McKenna has a little feature on a tv program over here in the UK right now and a few months back he cured a guy's stuttering problem in a single session and he'd had the problem for over 20 years. So yeah, i'm no expert but you need better treatment than you're currently getting.

The main problem for this man according to Paul was his breathing. He sorted his breathing out and an hour later the man read out a cue card on national tv.

Good luck :)
