My mother is interested to attend sessions at Dallas Hypnosis Center - for weight loss. She has asked me to research Hypnosis - in general - and frankly I don't find much information for sceptics.
The DHC has quoted her $2,000.00 - if they find she can not be hypnotized in the first session - she can get a full refund and never come back again. The person she met with told her believes she can be hypnotized (go figure). If it does work - she will have 2-3 sessions the first so-many weeks, then ween off to decrease the number of sessions per week, then sessions per month, until she is no longer going and supposedly at her goal weight - then if she should ever gain weight back she can go in at no charge to get back to the original goal weight.
If it works, she doesn't mind spending the money. But would hate to spend so much to find out in the third session that it doesn't really won't work for her after all.
The person she met with at DHC also told her some line about obesity being the #1 killer in America blah blah - but my mother happens to be a Heart Health expert and knows that Heart Disease is actually the #1 killer ... So they got off to a bad start there. If I do encourage mother to follow this tract - I will definitely recommend she someone else - she will NEVER trust this person enough to follow any suggestion from her.
She has asked me to find general information (on-line) regarding hynosis as it relates to weight loss and whether it is successful. Not so much how it works - we both tend to want to believe that it does - but moreover - how WELL it works.
Basically - her concerns are: Does it work for weight loss? How often/what percentage? Besides weight loss, will they plant any other "suggestions"?
Any feedback ya'll care to give would be welcome.
If I am at the wrong place for these questions - let me know.
Sincere thanks,
Kamaral

Hi Kamaral,
Not an area in which I have a great deal of experience, however, I have only had maximum 4 sessions with a client to achieve and maintain their target weight. It is a very successful modality - check the archives in the old forum, there is some good stuff there.
Your mother's doubts about this person suggest that she should find someone else that she feels comfortable with. The first meeting has put doubts in mum's mind about the veracity of the therapist, and that will always be a stumbling block.
Months worth of sessions, IMO, is TOO long, a competent hypnotherapist would do it in a LOT less time
Good luck in finding someone your mother feels she can trust, and who sounds as if they know the facts around what they are talking about.

Thanks for your reply - I appreciate the time and effort.
Sent the answer/s to my mom - she came back with the following - more - question:
I am also concerned that in their concern about being successful at helping me to lose weight they will over look good food habits. As I told you on the phone, this lady I spoke with could or would only tell me that people who lost weight usually had fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch and that was all they wanted ....if they felt they needed a snack it was usually a piece of fruit.....Since I have been diagnosed with Hyperglycemia and have kept it under control for years buy including protein in all my meals --- it concerns me that there is absolutely no protein until dinner time....... but lots of natural sugar.......and with hypoglycemia it doesn't matter if it is natural or not.....you still bounce off the walls if you do not have protein and shorten the number of sugars you take in. I kept asking, " what are some of the suggestions they make" "do they tell you what to eat" and all she would say is that they would tell you to eat healthy and moderate your intake. BUT then she would say things like everyone has fruit for breakfast and salad for lunch ....now why would everybody just decide to have that for breakfast unless someone is telling (Suggesting) them to either before or during hypnosis?
Thanks again!

A wise lady I see, pity that all prospective customers aren't as careful in their choice of practitioner.
First of all, no practitioner would put a client on a diet, regardless of what that diet excludes. No practitioner of worth would treat a client without an in depth discussion, in which all ailments are exposed and discussed.....
The money is not the important part, but health is, as well as time, so find another practitioner.
Time factor.......Since the client is taught to help themselves between visits, or should be, I would expect at the most six visits should ensure a properly trained client, who can then continue to lose fat, and gain health over the nescessary months when a healthy loss can be expected, ie fast loss is an unhealthy loss.....
Diet...Excluding any food indicates that the practitioner is not conversant with proper eating habits. Here of course, I do exclude prepared foods, such as deli meats etc, because of added content which is harmfull, such as excess salt, sugar, etc.......Yet those same foods in natural form are all fine to eat in moderation, as is any food not tampered with to change it's content.
Questions I would ask. Who did you get your training from?
How long have you been in practise?
What experience do you have in this particullar field, ie weight loss as you choose to call it? Should be loss of inches (G)
Can you direct me to someone whom you have helped?
Please note, you may not get satisfaction for all questions, I would never direct someone to a client on the basis of client confidentiality, but asking the question will sometimes give you interesting answers to interpret.....
Years of experience is of greatest importance, though we don't all learn at the same pace, and sometimes develop bad habits over the years.......
All in all, I suspect your mother will do just fine, she knows what she wants, and seems to have her head well secured to her shoulders. Good luck, and oh yes, asking about who trained someone leads to the possibility of holding the practitioner up to censure if you are not happy with the service you receive, and have valid reason for such complaints.....Terry

Hi Kamaral,
There are many aproaces to hypnosis and weight loss.
Among them are diet and exercise. As hypnotists dabble with weight loss, the begin to believe they are experts at nutritional biochemistry and medicine. It is not uncommon for them to start suggesting specific diets.
Do they know of the sugar issue?
Did anyone there ask?
If they don't as, i'd go shopping for help elsewhere.
Diet/exercise are sledge-hammer-forcing-a-pin methods IMO.
Yes, the body can be forced to become slim, and if properly programmed, the body can be forced to stay slender.
That is not the best way IMO.
I prefer to chane the clients 'internal picture' of themself. The one the mind uses to build the body. Once that is changed, the mind just naturally takes the body to the internal picture and keeps it there.
Simple, easy, no "diet"
It just naturally happens. It flows easier than the original gaining of the weight.
But that's my preference.
Like I said, there are many weightloss methods.
But do find someone who asks about the health in detail before they start talking specific diets.

Just go to Merlin's web-home, she lists here. She recounts her history there, and also greets you "face-to-face".
Merlin's ideas about the *Mind, and how it works* are amazingly similar to how I understand it as well, but I have to admit Merlin's "red" eyes "freak me out". Sorry, Merlin - I mean no disrespect. I think you are a stunningly beautiful woman otherwise, but I find your eye-color "scarry" .
Can you change :) them ? to a brilliant-blue ;)

Ah I see. However, from the apearance of the eyebrows, this is a redhead, and as such, the existing brown, or better yet green would be apropriate.. My redhead has brown eyes and I can't imagine her with blue ones (G) Terry
