Hello,
What is the earning potential for hypnotherapists and NLP practitioners in the UK? What is the average and what makes the high earners, earn what they do?
All the training courses talk about good earning potential, but what does that really mean?
Thanks
That mean if you put all of your energy and focus into promoting yourself and doing good work you can make a lot of money. It also means if you have lots of other interests, don't focus, don't care, do a lousy job, etc., you won't make much money at all.

Your earning potential will depend upon who your target audience is. If you become specialised, then obviosly you will only earn from that speciality. This is not a bad thing if you get into group hypnosis. Group hypnosis is not good for problems which need an individual one-to-one approach. There are people in England who are into smoking ceassation with large grouops, often upto 150 people. Imagine charging Just £50 with a money back guarantee minus a booking fee. The booking fee alone could give you an income. Some groups are charging more than £50 per person but I'm sure you get the drift.
I have heard of some people charging upto £350 for a one-to-one session for quitting smoking.
Hypnosis for sports performance can be done in groups and if you get in with a professional team...
In my opinion you either become very specialised and charge a small fortune or do groups.

ealing,
Mostly it'll depend on 2 things.
1-How are you as a small-business owner-operator.
That's what a hypnotist is.
2-What will you do?
Consult for golf?
I wonder what could be charged for Tiger Woods class of golfer?
Help for Cancer?
Parkhill charges about £400 per session.
Or just stop smoking and Phobias?
Let's see...
100 people in a room
£25 per person
Two times a week
£125000/yr. if you take 2 weeks off for vacation and only work one saturday a week.
Hello Ealing,
Most of it has been said, but I would only add that in order to do large groups you have to have 'front', you have to be a performer - if you are a shrinking violet, don't bother, just deal with individuals or learn how to perform. This is less financially rewarding, but I know of one English hypnotherapist who earns around £100K pa working with individuals as a 'GP'. However, for every one of those there are hundreds who barely scrape a living. Around 40% of people who train as hypnotherapists never practice and around 60% of those who do are out of business within 18 months. It is in the interests of training organisations to say this ain't so, but it is.
Working with sportspeople is not the pot of gold some might think. It is very rare for an hypnotherapist to be accepted by professional sportspeople unless he or she is also qualified as a psychologist, preferably with a PhD. There are many, many sports psychologists working in this area and it is very crowded in the UK.
Large group smoking or weight loss sessions can be a profitable, as can producing seminars, training sessions or setting up a school or a postal course.
However, if your main motivation for entering the profession is money then I would suggest that you would be better off training as a plumber. I guarantee that you will earn more money in your first year as a plumber than in your first five years as an hypnotherapist, unless you are a great showman.
If your motivation is a desire to help other people then ignore all the foregoing.

Thanks everyone,
very useful information. I want to do this because I love helping others however need to know that I will not be worrying about the mortgage every month. I want to earn at least 80k a year.
I have set up in business this year after leaving a corporation and am finding it hard to maintain momentum as a solo professional. I miss being around others.
I am considering going back to full time employment and doing this part time, (Currently NLP , just started my hypnosis training) having said that creating a niche seems like a hard but easier route. I used to be a radio presenter so think I could cope with groups and have some fun as well.
Do we think the corporate market is open to paying for hypnosis for sales performance and stop smoking sessions etc and if so what rate?
Thanks for all your help.

Nobody can forcaste the business potential in your area, as you should know, but I did both many years ago, and got clients sufficient for my part time venture. Sales persons paid their own freight, but I imagine I could have got the corporate folks onside if I had tried. I found however, that if they paid themselves, the success rate was high, and I suspect it would have been less successful if the company had paid for the course....Smoking of course is personal, and I would suggest basing fees on the cost of the habit.... One pack per day for say six months.
