I am not sure where else to ask this question so here I am! I was wondering if anyone can direct me to learning more about the technique that is utilized in the below link. It is a clip from Derren Brown in which he utilizes light and sound patterns to allow people to enter a catatonic state. I dont know if this has an official name, but I would like to learn more about its process. Thank you for your help.

There is no technique name for this. Derren took advantage of a natural trance state and deepened it with a suggestion to have a passport picture taken ASAP. Man finds place to have picture taken and trance is re-established and deepened. The unconscious mind can hear more than the conscious mind can. Derren continually talks to the man so he does not emerge. Then the man is left to emerge in a natural way in a foreign country. WTF were you thinking of Derren Brown???? That could have been very dangerous and caused great harm.

No laws of hypnosis have been broken. Man was not requested to do anything against his morals or ethics. Man was allowed to emerge from trance on his own.

Now for my opinion since you want to learn to do this. Had I been the man and had to emerge from trance in a foreign country I would have sued the pants off of Mr. Derren Brown. It was, in my opinion, dangerous and very ill thought out.

If you want to learn how to perform this type of "crap", take some very good in-person hypnotherapy courses and also take advanced hypnotherapy and Certified Instructor training. Have a very good insurance company behind you as you will need it.

I usually enjoy Derren but this is sooo very unethical that it smells to high heavens.

Highly PO'd~Pood

You're kidding, right? Some guy and a camera crew breaks into your home and all you do is say "Hi, nice to meet you?" He makes no move to protect his girl friend from potential assault. She ignores the entire thing and says nothing such as "It's a joke, dear. Play along."

Of course, it could be said that DB committed multiple crimes, including breaking and entry and kidnapping. Why, in heaven's name, do you think this was real?

DB's show was entertainment. He uses concepts of hypnosis to entertain people--he doesn't have to use hypnosis at all. I've seen lots of his shows. It's clear he knows a lot about hypnosis, but I've yet to see him use it on any of his programs.

Binnkin, do you think that every entertainment show you watch on TV is real? The events on "Lost" are real? "Star Trek" is real?

I know for sure that you and I both have the skills to do this. We also both know very well that it takes a little while for trance to "wear off" after emerging which is one reason I keep clients around chit chatting for an extra 15 minutes so I know it's totally safe for them to leave.

Can you imagine in your wildest dreams of emerging in a foreign country without knowing the language, etc. It could easily send the mind "over the edge".

Real or faked -- it gives hypnosis a very BAD name.

The skill to hypnotize someone so they could end up ignoring where they are going and experiencing amnesia over it? Yes.

However, I don't claim to have the skill to break into a stranger's home and wake them up with a bright light shining in their face and only get an "Oh, hello," response from them.

If I were in bed with my girlfriend and someone did that to me they'd find the flashlight I keep by my bed buried in their skull. Then I'd call the cops and have the entire crew arrested for breaking and entry.

The set-up is totally unbelievable. It would be like me swooping in on a flying saucer, kidnapping someone, and then hypnotizing them and getting them to quit smoking. Is it possible to help someone quit smoking with hypnosis? Sure. But the set-up make the entire thing unbelievable.

And then he just happens to need photos and just happens to go into the fake photo booth? Sure. If you need your teeth cleaned would you stop in at the moveable dentist's office or go to one whom you trusted? And then all the flashing lights...Do YOU need that to hypnotize someone? I don't think so. In fact, I know you don't need all of that garbage. I've seen you work. Do you even have some crazy booth where a person can sit in it and have lots of lights flash in their face so they'll go into trance? I imagine there are some hypnotists who have something like that, but I don't know any. All of the hypnotists I know are far to competent to need anything like that.

The concept of what hypnosis can do is real. The situations and process are corny and beyond belief.

I am not certain at all that the man in bed is the same man that lives in that house that "took the trip". GF had to do more than just key to the door or how does he find the Passport in the first drawer opened. (Valuable little item that one generally puts well away.)
