View Full Version : hypnosis lineage.
Dear all, I am wondering if I am being unreasonable to ask a hypnosis school what training their head teacher has had and what their lineage was. I have enquired this from several schools in the UK and the USA. Most answer. There are a few however, who like to enjoy a high profile with adverts in national newspapers, who seem not to want to answer this question.
Am I being unreasonable, in this day and age where hypnosis can be learned from books and dvds, to want to know who would be teaching me?
Jim.
Hello Jim,
As with most professions there are real people and charlatans. The real people, unless they are totally arrogant or unstable, will always tell you what their qualifications and background are. What's to hide?
The charlatans will either tell you nothing or run you round in circles with spurious qualifications which they may have awarded themselves.
My advice would be to treat hypnosis schools with scepticism and make them prove that they are worthy to take your hard earned money. If they won't do that, move on. That's not unreasonable.
Jack

Jim, I am going to reply to you by correcting your last paragraph. NO you can't learn from books and tapes, which is exactly why you should put out the questions you propose, and to hell with the attitude.. If you don't get a trainer who is highly qualified, and with the skill to teach what he or she knows, you don't need to spend you money on garbage. Those who teach from books only are doing a disservice to all of us, not just their students, and should be prosecuted, except no law exists on this. Keep pushing for answers, and remember the money is in your pocket still, so you have the hammer.... The school that is too big to reply to the enquiring peasant, is also too big to do the job you are paying for, they have lost touch, or have something to hide. Just as a matter of interest, just today, I read an article from Gil Boyne on hypnosisonline.com speaking on this matter, you should visit and read it. Gil has been in the business for longer than I, fifty years in fact, and has co authored books as well, but being from the old school he is death on those who set themselves up to teach when they are not competent enough to do so properly.
Thanks for tose replies. Would it be advisable to name the head teacher of a particular organisation, to see if anyone has heard of him?
