well I started learning nlp and hypnosis a couple of days ago. I've read this book called "mastering hypnosis". Now I wanted to test it on someone so I tried on a friend of mine. I placed a handwatch a foot higher than her head and let her focus on it. I started talking but she couldn't concetrate and started lauging at me. I can't get her concentrated. Any suggestions?

If I may interject for a moment; if, say, your subject seems to be about to giggle, predict it as if it's an expected part of entering a hypnotic state. Tell them they might giggle, or yawn, or blink more often, or whatever else they tend to do.

A number of inductions use this principle so that every physiological change simply confirms to the subject that it's "working".

Perhaps you could use a different induction?
One that does not require concentration or effort.

Yeah about that. Where can I found what are the different ways of induction? Book, website? And good books list would be nice.

I mean I only know of this type of trance, and the handshake interrupt which is hard to do for me.

Yeah well now that I know that this could be done faster and without concentrating, I won't be doing that again. But thanks again for tryin to help out a noob.

This website has many induction methods listed, as well as script ideas.
But it does require the effort to go and look.

As for books, Skip has posted his list here many times.
Again it requires a little effort on your part.

I have a FAQ which is hyperlinked to my sig-line.
It also requires effort of your part though.

My FAQ has a booklist too.
Again requiring a small bit more effort.

It's all here. We've put in a great deal of effort for you already.
Are you willing to apply a bit more effort yourself?

Yes I'll put an effort and search for this forum. I did a lot of google searching though, but I didn't like what I found. But I like this forum and thats why I joined. Anyway I've got another question.

I have these hypnotherapy audio files, and they're supposed to put me into trance and suggest me things. But I can't seem to fall into trance. I get too excited and my heart beats a little faster than notmal. I try to do what the speaker says like relax and other stuff, but I can't seem to fall in trance. I think it might have to do with my concentrating. Any good suggestions on learning to focus or concentrate better?

Sorry for double posting but I forgot to tell you that your faq is great and the book listing. Some of the books I already read them. Thanks a lot for helping out.

Cassandra 8 has answered this well.

( I've been offline awhile, sorry not to reply sooner )

Anyway, this thread seems to have evolved towards book recommendations, and such.

As I recall, there is a REALLY good explanation of Pacing/Incorporation, as it specifically applies to Hypnosis, in the book "TranceFormations"

The book can sometimes be difficult to get hold of, but if you're serious about understanding a lot about the arts of Hypnosis & NLP, then "TranceFormations" is a must-read, IMHO.

Have fun.

Well, if you read my FAQ it answers this.

Quoting my FAQ:
Q. Do tapes/CDs work?

Tapes or CDs are limited in effectiveness. They are not useless, just less effective than a live hypnotist. Often CDs are very limited. There are a couple of points at issue with tapes/CDs.
1. The recording is generalised for the population as a whole and will not induce hypnosis in most people.
2. The suggestions are generalised and may or may not be applicable to the individual’s needs.

>I think it might have to do with my concentrating.

So stop concentrating already!

>Any good suggestions on learning to focus or concentrate better?

Don't!

Don't try.
Don't fall into trance.
Just relax and quit trying.

The idea of going into trance (in my opinion) is to give up concentrating - relax - let go of the intense focus - and it works for me. Have you ever done meditation? It's a good start... I just relax and let my mind float, and delete thoughts as they show up so I can focus on the work...

once you see that "I'm going to laugh and I can't help myself" smile cross their face, you incorporate it; my favourite way of doing this from the works of one of my heroes Kenton Knepper (www.wonderwizards.com) is the simple phrase

"Yes, it's funny how this can work", which is a cover presupposition that this CAN work.

Which is always useful.

Hope that's of some help.
