View Full Version : Learning during sleep
In the book "The use of hypnosis in surgery and anesthesiology" (a good and well referenced book) it is said:
"Many Russian experimentors showed that learning during sleep is possible".
Interestingly, no reference for this claim.
Do you have any info about that? Is it true?

that the "mind" hears during general anesthesia. This is one of several reasons why WE like to prepare people for surgery. What I'm not really sure of is if ALL of the medical community knows this. "Wow! This is some giant tumor in here. This poor fellow is going to be dead within six months." Bad programming.
or
is this just a sneeky way of answering the questions for your cert?
Poodle,
"Suspicious minds" is a beautiful song, with a beautiful message...
I read that sentence and there is some controversy about learning during sleep (different than hearing during sleep or during anesthesia). Many hypnotists say it is not possible, but what about "many Russian experimentors" (page 120)?
It seemed beyond the Iron Curtain great things were done!
Some years ago a device was being selled in Italy for learning during sleep. If I remember well, our Prime Minister used it (or better, supposedly used it) to learn English!
No certification involved, already passed the exam, even if the exams never end:)

never end. We have what is called "continuing education" in both hypnosis and NLP.
Actually, that question caused me to pause on the exam and do a lot of thinking. It is possible in sleep, but it needs to be done in person. This is a skill that is taught at the instructor's level. We also learned how to do mind control and other things that will never happen in this lifetime.
When we are alseep the mind is very active as it has a body to heal, take care of, renew, refresh and it even allows us to dream. It's absolutely incredible what the mind does. Could it be suggested to hear something when we are asleep, most probably. You may wish to take a look at Docresults' website as he writes about brain levels. Interesting!!

Poodle,
are you referring to hypno-sleep, proposed first (I think) by Elman and "popularized" by Gerry Kein?
And, I did not understand this part "We also learned how to do mind control and other things that will never happen in this lifetime". Could you please clarify?
Many thanks

No, I am not referring to hypno-sleep. ;)
Beautifully enigmatic

it ain't sleep.
one 'wakes up' enough to listen.
Merlin and Poodle,
is there any reference for that? I don't know of people teaching that (except you, I presume )

I do not teach this. Merlin speaks for herself.
If you really want to know the secrets at CI training, you will have to "earn your own stripes" ;)

Merlin has answered your question many times. You just don't like her answers. You prefer to believe some old Russain book. Pay very close attention to this lady! She knows exactly what she is writing about and does it in so few words it's uncanny.
Over the years I have learned to pay very close attention to every word.

Dear Poodle,
you are underestimating my lurking skills...
I know that the issue has been discussed and I also remember that also Skip was working on sleep learning, but it was not clear the "how to". Then, I read that sentence in a book (written by an American, I think), but without references, I missed sources where digging deeper. As for my answer to Merlin, it was (clearly) a joke :).
Cheers
