Hello all. Recently stumbled across this forum and decided it was time to introduce myself. I have of late begun to take a growing interest in the subject of hypnosis and in this day and age when interested in any subject, who can walk past a good forum without signing up and bathing in the pool of knowledge? :)
Im begining to think however ive tried to take in too much too soon and now it all seems a bit of a blur.
I do however have a few questions that Im particulary interested in finding the answers too as it would clear up a lot of things for me and possibly burst a few bubbles along the way..............
I havent really strictly speaking attempted any self hypnosis yet, im not actually sure I have the discipline to achieve such a state as my mind is an incredible wanderer. However I have read things about it being likened to a state of day dreaming, something im very good at. Im one of those people who mull over situations that have happened and even take them to possible future outcomes while daydreaming, only to come back down to earth and realise im genuinely sad, angry, happy, whatever. Is that kind of what self hypnosis is? Nothing that really takes you away from where you are and into another completely altered state but more a daydream type of state?
Another questions I have is, is it possible to see a hypnotherapist and have them place a trigger that would enable me to enter my own sort of self hypnotic state? I.e a completely ridiculous trigger that would never happen in day to day real life such as holding your thumb against each of your other fingers on your hands in sequence, or flicking your nose 17 times ( you get the idea ). If that is possible, how deep could the state go and could you add in time frames like, trigger 30 mins, trigger 60 mins etc? Also would the state allow for you to continue to give yourself suggestings while in this trigger induced state?
I ask the above, because if I couldnt achieve a self hypnotic state, then the above ( if possible ) seems to be the ideal solution to me.
I think my final question for now is, are induced hallucinations such as you would see with stage hypnosis possible under self hypnosis or does that require a much deeper trance only able to be induced by someone else? I.e while under self hypnosis, could you clearly imagine being somewhere else or imagine an object that wasnt there etc?
I have a feeling im way off track with a lot, if not all of the above and there may be a few sniggers in front of a few monitor screens, but what the heck. :)
Hello again to all. The forums a pleasure to read and hope to be around a bit.
