I've read Hypnosis for beginners ( by William W. Hewitt ) and NLP for dummies ( which was like reading a dictionary) and i've seen lots of youtube videos. I'm taking a course in April (hypnosis) so till then I'd like to try self teach myself so that when i get there i can know where i made my mistakes and learn more. I was thinking of getting a basic script from hypnosis for begginers and putting ppl to a alpha state then maybe doing alittle suggestion ( nothing to big) or maybe a story or metaphor ( example : You can forget your meal, but never forget your reading) then bringing them out and asking for feed back. But should my voice be clear? The hypnosis book was very good for beginners but left me with few questions about body language, voice, stuff like that. So is there any tips u guys could give me? Also i'm going into psycology cause i really think it could compliment my hypnotherapy skill.
Hi, Harley, and welcome.
Whew. Bill Hewitt's book is a good intro, and NLP for Dummies, beside having a horrible title (you're obviously no dummy if you could read it), although having lots of good information, is like reading a dictionary.
Congratulations on taking a course in April. With your interest I'm sure you'll do well.
Here is my advice to you:
Do you have any habits you don't like? Maybe biting your nails or procrastination. I don't know, but most people have bad habits. The question is, how did you get it?
Well, I don't know how you got yours, but it's been determined (by Maltz) and accepted that it takes three weeks of regular practice to turn something into a habit.
So let's say that you teach yourself something on hypnosis, and by the time you get to class it's a habit...and it's a mistake. You have something wrong. You know it's difficult to break bad habits on our own.
So I would respectfully suggest this: don't do it. Don't try it out from reading a book or two and watching a video or two in uTube. You'll get to your class in just a few weeks and be disappointed that what you're doing doesn't work because you've developed bad habits. And even if you're corrected in class, it will take three weeks of regular practice to break your old habits and get new ones (unless you work on it in class, which may not be part of the curriculum).
So at this point, I would respectfully suggest that you wait to learn the practice, but continue learning the concepts and theory. Contact the people who are putting on the class and see what books they recommend. If you want to know more about body language, voice, etc., I'd suggest the book Instant Raport by Brooks.
Good luck, and great hypnosis!

Kudos on your upcoming class. Don is ever so correct. It is not good to go in with "ideas" and the instructor has to "correct" those "ideas".
We have a nice FAQ here by Merlin.
Two books (for reading only) I would suggest: Training Trances by John Overdurf and Julie Silverthorn ($20 new and you can probably find it used) and Trance-formation by Dr. Richard Bandler. I'm writing about the newest one, not the one that is out of print. This new one is $15.95 and you may be able to find it used. They both contain some NLP which will definitely make what you have read so far a whole bunch more fun. If you are still interested in NLP, take a look at Get The Life You Want also by Dr. Bandler.
Just remember -- reading only. You can practice things in class on other students with your instructor there.
Enjoy, thoroughly enjoy our world!
Pood :)
