Hi All

I have been taking several hours of lesson every week since Febuary and I am due to take my test on the 25th. I have coached myself stupid into passing 1st time. What advise can you give me to get me in the right frame of mind to pass first time...

Relax, get some sleep and just drive.

well, don't drive into road signs, don't show the tester that you can drive with one finger and talk on the cell on the same time (turn it off of course), breathe normally and imagine the tester to be short signted - SHOW HIM/HER that you're looking in the mirrors and doing all the stuff we all should do...

:-) oh yeah, and unless you're in the UK or Australia, we drive on the RIGHT side of the road... how fast it's up to the nerves in your right foot.

gooooood luck, I had my first 10 years ago in my country, and a couple of years ago in California where one tester is probably not riding no more.. hihi... heck, I'm a pro hypnotist, he said I can't drive, I said he can't get it up. Ooops. Crush. I passed anyway, don't know if he did.

but don't think of passing the exam, think of having fun!

Good advice from Cassandra. I would only add that although you want to pass first time what is the worst thing that might happen if you don't?

JackTrue. This is a long time ago, mind, but I thought I'd failed my test about halfway through because my hand slipped on the wheel, and so I just drove the examiner about town without any stress from there on. I passed  .

So just chill, keep quietly on your toes and well versed in the situation as it unfolds. Anchor the state to the position of your hands on the steering wheel.

And every time you turn the key remember: you are mortal.

Of course, we rich b*tches love our turbos, but I speak as one waking up to find myself arguing about the number of stitches I needed in the back of my head on 13th February 1986. They were arguing back about whether I needed a second pint of claret. Then, apparently, I crashed. Not a good space to be in. You are warned.

I'd love to tell you a tale of how I cheated death but it's only a story I read in the witness statement I had copied and framed to prove it happened. It sits on the baby grand, and I read it whenever I'm driving the ivories of an evening.

I would have responded, but Cassandra said it first.
I can't agree with her. To do so would probably cause the world to end.

So, I disagree.
With what I don't know.
But for the sake of the world and humanity, I disagree.:D

The world ends if you fail a driving test? lool;)

though it is pretty interesting how everyone just seems to be 'perfect little robots' during the test, yet once outa driving school with a license, who cares about getting everything right..

not just in driving though.. yes i'm tangentifying(if thats a word) people oftenly 'flood' themselves with the exact facts right before a test/exam and afterwards memorise only tiny sparks of it or the most important idea(s). Given that, what's the point of making people memorise every single detail for a tiny little at most, hour-long 'exam'?

Tinkerbell,

I want you to pay very careful attention to what I am going to say, because it is the answer you seek.

I am assuming: You are/have studied and prepared yourself for this test. You have practiced driving, and you know thoroughly the booklet with the rules. When you get to the test time, you will be ready and prepared.

I want you to concentrate during both the written test and the driving test on doing just well enough to pass. I do not want an "A" grade, or a "B" grade, but I want you to make a "C" grade, maybe in the lower "C" range. I know you have prepared for an "A" grade and that is just fine, I approve, and if you accidentally made an "A", it would be OK, but I dont want you to strive for an "A", because it doesnt matter one whit!

A "C" gets you the same license as an "A", and you dont have to be nearly as perfect to get it.

There are many 'tests' like this in life, where the only importnt thing is that you pass, not how far in excess of passing you score. Some tests, your score does matter, but in a driving test, the only important thing is that it be just pass failing.

So that is what I want you to strive for on test day. By no means are you to try to be perfect, it wouldnt matter if you were.

Hi Everybody

I have another quest i am hoping you can all help me with... I am due to shortly be benchmarked on my coaching skills at work. I need to achieve a master coach level 5 in order to keep my postion otherwise i have to go back to my old job. So a lot is depending on it. Other than practicing like crazy... do you have any top tips ?

>The world ends if you fail a driving test?

I said: " but Cassandra said it first."

Then I said "I can't agree with her. "
because: "To do so would probably cause the world to end."

If I felt it safe to agree, then I would.
But I don't want the world to end yet :)

Relax. Almost 'give up'
Your sub conscious knows exactly what to do to pass.
It's your conscious, thinking of all the negatives which could go wrong which are interfering.

Still disagreeing with Cassandra (somehow) for the sake of humanity.

I've done so before.
The world didn't end.
the world is still here.

hehe comon it can't be thaaatt hard to get agreement from ya;) jkjk

hmm.. do you guys think this is a good/bad statement? "The world will go on without you." In a way that helps promote 'community as a whole' but those who value individualism won't take it well.. just curious on dif views:cool: :D

You mean driving in reverse around a corner? I've never heard of anyone being tested for that skill.

thanks for your support guys. Where do you live Don... I either had to reverse around a sweeping corner, a sharp corner and either a turn in the road or a reverse park.

tinkerbellOh dear. Too wide or hit the kerb?

Still, at least you've realised the test is nothing to be frightened of.

Back at home we have the same kind of thing. The driving test included a whole lot more than it does in the states, or at least where I live now. Not that it amounts to anything we have one the highest rates of car accidents in the world.

Tinkerbell,
I'm not sure what the attitude of the officers are over there in the UK. Like, at home they used to be like gods and everyone would get so nervous.

When I read skip's post I thought if someone had said something like this to me this back then I would have been a whole lot calmer.

It took me three times to pass the test but it had nothing to do with my skills because I took the test in three consecutive days. My driving teacher made me do it. The third day I just got fed up with the officers attitude and took up an attitude that somehow made her step down from her throne.

Anyway, wish you luck

Funny this subject should come up now. One of my grandsons took his first driving test about five weeks ago, and failed. Three weeks later he took it again and passed this time. Within a day or so, he bought his first car, and of course had to take everybody for a ride, as if they had never been in a car before (G)...... After three days of ownership, while driving a group of friends around, he ran out of road, and wrote off his nice new car. This was two weeks ago, and on Sunday while we were a church, and I was giving thanks that nobody had been hurt, he informed me that he had bought another car just like the first, except that this one was automatic shift, while the first one he bought had had a manual stick shift.
Ah well, easy come easy go I suppose and money is replaceable, while life is not, so safe driving everyone, and to hell with passing first time, just drive safely........

I live in Southern California. Yes, we do "reverse park" (here it is called "parallel parking," grrr....I still hate it) park here, but not a reverse around a corner.

So when you do pass on your next test, know that you'll be better than many of the drivers here in SoCal. In fact, you'll probably be better than most. You may be better than most right now!

Hi All

Cassandra - I failed on failing to check over my right sholder as i was going around the corner, other than that it was perfect. The examiner said it could have inconveince other drivers by me continuing if cars had been waiting ( which they wasn't) and therefore was a serious fault.

Don - From everybody i have spoke to bar my driving instructor they have never used reversing around a corner since passing there test apart from one lad who was showing of to his mum and reversed round a corner into a lamp post and wrote of his new car. We also have parallel parking except we call it reverse parking this is also on your test but up to press i have been good at it (touch wood).

terry - hope your grandson is still okay, try and get him to slow down or drive without his friends in the car he may not want to show off and take risk he shouldn't.

Parsa - as for police officers they make me really nervous like they are just waiting to nick my licence off me before i have even got it... I don't know where i have got this from because they are only human.

All - I have decide regardlas of the cost i am passing next time, if i have to kidnapp the examiner. I have a lesson tomorrow and 10 hours the week before my test. So everyone please cros your fingers, toes, legs, arms ect... for me !

I recently saw a bin waggon pull backwards around a corner without looking, thereby swinging out into oncoming traffic. It opened a Ford Ka coming the other way like a tin of corned beef.

I got out, the woman driving the Ka got out and so did the very irate bin man. I calmed the woman down, whereupon the man claimed it was all her fault.

My, how I laughed as I explained the situation to him as only a pactitioner of the subtle arts is able :D...
