Hi there

I finished the thread about how NLP doesn't work!

and thought I'd share with you something that happened last night
first of all , I'm very new to NLP , only found out about it maybe 5 or 6 weeks ago , I had no training in it , and most of my information are from websites , and some books I ordered and some TV programs

last night ,a friend visited me , he didn't know I got divorced a few weeks ago , he was very surprised , and I guess he felt sorry for me, and wanted to tell me a story to make things easier for me ( have no idea why he thought I need so ) so he started telling me a story about a girl he knew before marrying his wife ( he has 3 children now I think ) , that other girl is married with children now as well
and yet he can't get over her and he started talking for more than an hour about how he knew her, how he feels he was mistreated / cheated ....etc.

I thought maybe some NLP would help ( though I don't know much )
I listened , and tried
1- taking responsibility
2- firgiving yourself/your parents/others
3- what if you woke up tomorrow and she's out of your mind as she is , she represents no feelings in your mind, like anyone walking down the street

and we spoke of this possibility
also we spoke about if he had a choice between erasing her totally from his memory, or having her in the memory but with no feelings , which will make him feel better in front of himself
the talk went on for about 2 am ( it started around 11 pm )
today I called him to check on him , he feels the couple of hours talk , were the best in 10 years , he feels very good now , and apparently life for him has a new meaning

if NLP works only for getting rid of negative feelings , then this is very useful for so many people

so, it seems to work!
and , it feels so good to feel you made a positive change in someone's life :)

does it feel this good for you professional NLP people as well ?

NLP oftentimes delights me the most when I use it with people who have absolutely ZERO formal knowledge of NLP.

So much can be done by just having a seemingly 'casual conversation'.............

all you did was care and listen... and that was more then enough.. of course he felt great. He had a burden on his shoulders and he was finally able to let it go..
What really fascinates me is how people seem to think that such an event is something really special, and has to do with NLP....
This is normal behaviour... jesus people........ sometimes you give me the impression that NLP is like a manual for people who dont know how to behave...
.........
sorry but i had to say it ;)

Hi, guest.

The thing is, most people don't understand how to do what you consider "normal behavior." NLP codifies and maps it so you can repeat it as needed. Years ago I was taught several sales techniques: "The yes method," "trial closes," "overcome objections with included close," etc. NLP describes all of these techniques (and many others) using different jargon.

What you call "normal behaviour" is similar to analogous to "common sense." Both seem highly uncommon!

Guest, I was about to reply to your post when I noticed that Don had done so, and said exactly what I would have said, though in different words. Common sense may indeed assist you to navigate a ship or aircraft across the Atlantic, and that is all the early travellers had to work with, but I bet if you were planing to travel by ship, you would shun one who's navigator was untrained, and using common sense to get you to your destination wouldn't you? I certainly would want one who was trained in the mathmatics of navigation, and had all of the tools. I know nothing of NLP, since it was not a separate course when I studied hypnosis, but I recognise that I use it constantly in everyday situations. On the other hand, are you assuming that NLP is NOT natural? If so I can understand your confusion

Sorry, this is a serious subject but I found the humor in it. Look at Bandler in action and tell me how serious NLP is. It is absolutely the most fun thing in the world.
