I have completed my training and received my NGH certificate, I have been starting to create a part time business making sure I am getting practice and doing additional reading. BUT I would like to know what would be my next step in hypnosis education. I am reading about 5 path and NLP... I was also looking at a course on Hypnosis101. Would like some help as to what direction I should study in.
I know the most important thing is to listen to the client. I don't feel I have enough tools in my hypnosis tool box yet. Would like to learn more about Inductions, Write better scripts and so on. Can anyone suggest any ideas.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm old fashioned I suppose, but after over forty years in the business I hope I can be excused for suggesting that now you have the basics of Hypnosis, the next step would be to start studying people.....
You see, Hypnosis has no value until you understand people so that you can use what you learned in an inteligent manner. People are the second necessary part in the therapy you hope to offer....
When I do something, or say something to a client, I expect a specific reaction based on my studies of people, and not on my knowledge of hypnosis. Hyposis is learned in a year or less. People study is for life, you can never learn enough, and it's facinating. I love to pull someones chain and watch the reaction, knowing that this will be according to that persons real personality and not what they project here.... It makes me many enemies, but they don;t matter, it also makes me friends, and these do since they have proved to me that they are worth sharing my time with, not because we will always agree, but because they care about others as do I....
Skip's copmment at the end of each post says it quickly and simply.
I'm not sure how you could get an NGH certificate and still want to take a course on hypnosis 101. To me, that's like saying you are certified for eating solid food and want to learn how to be weaned.
If you feel you don't listen to the client well enough, take courses in (Carl Rogers) Rogerian Counseling and learn "active listening." If you can't find one through your local college or university, take a course in NLP.
If you would like to learn more inductions, search the websites of people such as Cal Banyon, Jerry Kein, Don Mottin, and other teachers of hypnosis. Also check eBay. And don't forget the NGH library and books they sell.
If you would like to write better scripts, read lots of books on scripts. They will give you great ideas. Don't copy the entire scripts, but use the concepts and put them into your own words. If you find certain expressions of a sentence or two that "sound right" to use, copy those. Take famous characters from fiction or history and imagine they are coming to you for hypnotherapy for some reason. Design a script for that problem with that specific personality and qualities.
Take courses in business.
Take courses in public speaking.
Good luck!

certain NGH instructors that simply teach their students one induction, Progressive Relaxation, and then teach them to read scripts AT the client. It seems as if there are good and bad in every organization.
5 Path and 7 Path are just names. It's all hypnosis.
Poster does not need to write scripts. Poster needs to understand HOW to COMMUNICATE WITH THE UC MIND. As Merlin once wrote to me: "Ask the mind." That statement backs up everything Erickson said when he said about resources being out of conscious awareness.
I suggested poster buy certain products there and I still stand by my suggestion. They are good enough for me and all of my students. You may now delete this entire thread IMHO since it has become a sales pitch for a great friend and colleague.

practice...
practice what you know
until it's easy and natural as breathing.
then, practice what you know some more

Thanks for all the comments.
I do understand what your saying and do practice, practice, practice.
I was simply asking if you have come across something that made a difference during your growth in hypnosis that you could share. I know it will take me years and years... but I also love to read, watch DVD's and practice hypnosis. I do hate to spend 40+ dollars on something I purchased because the marketing group got the upper hand on me.
In the NGH class we received inductions, scripts, and other stuff... yes some of it will work fine BUT in my opinion, I need to have the script come from my heart not just from my mouth. I have to believe and be comfortable with the word delivery to feel good when a client leaves.
I am comfortable with weight loss right now... I did what Don suggested a while back and took bits and pieces from other scripts... and because weight loss was the reason I took hypnosis I could relate to it and put some of my own words in it too.
So I do understand the concept of People Study... I am also looking for additional Books to read and DVD's to watch per your experiences. Not trying to make this a infomertial for DVD's and Books but to network / share from experience.
Again, Thanks

it has been written that "we specialize" in an area. Perhaps you have already found your speciality. Reminds me of a clinical hypnotherapist that lives in a big city in the USA and has many satellite offices in that city -- all offering her style of weight management and makes xxx million dollars per year.
Having a speciality by no means indicates that you do not work in other areas. It seems as if our bread and butter are the three S's -- slimming, smoking and stress.
When you learn that the "script" comes from your UC, then you will be magnificent.

My only comment here is re: hypnosis101. Keith's got some great materials there, not necessarily for beginners. So, the weaning comment doesn't fit!
When someone says they're looking for stuff on hypnosis101, I assumed, mistakenly it would seem, that the reference was to a beginning hypnosis class, as in hypnosis 101, 102, 103, etc. More advanced classes would be hypnosis 201, 202, etc.
I did not mean to demean anyones training materials, especially as I have not seen them.
Had the original post talked about hypnosis101.com, it would have been clearer, and since the meaning of communication is the response you get... :)

Can we please delete some trade names around here as we do not allow advertising by even good friends. We need to keep in mind that this is Dr. Matt's Forum at all times.
Thanks -- Pood :)

It's OK, Don!! :) PS: If you want to delete the references, it's fine by me, too. Though, it seems to me we often DO make reference to other schools/trainers/materials/including when Pood says "call Skip or Doc"--we just don't LINK to them.

Thanks to all of you, Yes Don Hypnosis101.com. Appreciate the help. I have a good foundation now... but it's a good foundation to start building on.
The forum has helped quite a bit too.
have a great day
Steve
