I'm very skeptical of the practical values of hypnosis, so I see no reason to prove/disprove my presumptions by paying a hypnotherapist. Is it possible to enter a state of hypnosis by watching internet videos? Will my level of skeptisism affect my ability to be hypnotised? Also, I have ADD, so my level of focus and ability to concentrate are sub par.
Thank you

I'm very skeptical of the practical values of hypnosis

So, why are you here talking to professionals who believe so thoroughly in its power for good in the world that we've dedicated our lives to it, and why would you want to experience something of no practical value? That seems a waste of time, doesn't it? No one here is interested in converting your skepticism. Do what you like!

You insult our profession as being of no practical value, then you ask for information. I'm less than inclined to help.

Thermochan, you've seen other posts showing how contradictory your post was, so I won't repeat them here. However, I will ask a couple of questions:

1) You say you have ADD. According to whom? Why do you say that is so? How do you know your "level of focus and ability to concentrate are sub par?" And since you are "very skeptical of the practical values of hypnosis," why should your supposed having of ADD even matter?

2) In spite of your doubts about the practical values of hypnosis, you still want to find out about hypnosis, you still want to use it, and you wonder if it will work even if you have supposed difficulties with focus and concentration. Although you aren't saying it--that is, I'm doing a mind read here--there are some implications to your post. Specifically, you have some issues and even though you're skeptical about hypnosis, you have a hope that it might help you with...something. Nobody here knows who you are, and the chances of someone who knows you reading your posts and discovering your "secret" is almost nonexistent. So, getting down to brass tacks, what is your specific issue that you hope hypnosis--even though you're skeptical--might help you with? Your post is too general to give a specific answer.

However, as a general answer, hypnosis is NOT a magic trick. It's not someone waving a magic wand to fix you. It's not about reading some script in a book and bam!, you're better.

However, if you want to change from something you are and don't like to something you want to be, a trained and experienced hypnotherapist can help you achieve your goals more quickly and effectively than most other systems.

The ultimate question is this: if you're unhappy about something and want to change it, hypnosis can help. Do you really want to change? Do you really want to get rid of the things you don't like about yourself? Or do you just want to have continued excuses for failure?

Good luck with whatever choices you make.

You are absolutely correct, for you there is no value. For everyone, what we choose to believe is the truth by which we live our lives. Yes ADD does affect you ability to focus as you say, so forget it......

Now in fairness to hypnosis, the person who comes to me because they have Cancer, and need my services to help deal with it, WELL, for them of course hypnosis is of great value, so much so that they have to date paid out huge sums to get that help. Strangely, ADD seems to have no effect on their ability to make use of my services, I wonder why?

Connie is correct, your aproach is insulting which displays poor communications skills and probably your youth. I am guessing you are very young, have no income, and are looking for a free thrill. No can do I'm afraid, so stop wasting our time and let us concentrate on helping those in real need, waste you own time playing with the cheap methods that get you nowhere....

You need to ask yourself one simple question here. If you have never before been hypnotized by a professional, who has explained to you how hypnosis feels and what will happen during the hypnosis session, How do you know that you are actually hypnotized when watching a video or listening to an audio cd?

If you have never been hypnotized before, you aren't allowing your mind to enter the hypnotic state & it will constantly be asking "is this right? am i hypnotized?"

The skeptic person often makes a better client than those who allow themselves to be hypnotized easilly, But this all depends on the hypnotherapist professional. We have literally hundreds of different inductions we can pull out of our bag of tricks. Inductions for every type of person, regardless of how skeptical they are.

This is just my two cents worth, and not necesserally the opinion of others here.

To be brutally honest no one really cares whether you believe in 'hypnosis' or not. 'Internet videos' are unlikely to help you address your scepticism.

People with ADD usually have excellent imagination so normally that would help, but will not for you, unless you want to be better.

Welcome back Mate!

Thanks Pood, But I actually haven't gone anywhere, I come here often for a read, But being only reasonably new to the hypnotherapy world (certified about a year and a half ago now) I still feel I have a lot to learn, as I am learning more with clients everyday. If I'm not 100% sure I know what I'm talking about, I would rather not say anything here.. That way I don't lead people astray.

Thanks again for the welcome back tho :)
