I don't like my speaking voice. I feel it's dull, shaky, not feminine enough, and lacks confidence. I hang around in a group with another girl who has a very pleasant voice, and I feel like people gravitate toward what she says because of it, while ignoring me.
I've checked out books on improving your voice, but so far I've had no luck. I was hoping hypnosis could help, but I don't know where to look. Does anyone have advice for me? I'd rather not pay money until I know what works.

I'd rather not pay money until I know what works. Let me address the last part of your question first if I may. "I'd rather not pay until I know what works". Well fact is Hypnosis does not work, the practitioner does, and we have no way of offering any guarantee as the who will best suit your purpose so it is buyer beware for you.
As for the first part of your question, yes, hypnosis can be used to assist change that will result in you getting what you want, but only if you get the services of a good and qualified practitioner.
Obviously you have no intention of jumping into action now, since you do not say where you are located, so you are on your own as to finding the right person to help you.....
One thing I will tell you for free, it is not your voice that is the problem but your personality. This I base on what you have posted about yourself, and change could be as easy as one session, or as much as five or six depending on how adaptable you are, so forget the books, they have no value until you know why you have the problem.....

There is software for your pc that will allow you to change that voice by working with the software -- long soft vowels and well enunciated consonants. Lowering it and getting rid of the nasal. How do I know this? I arrived at NLP Trainer's Training and the first thing I was told was: "That voice! We have got to change it." The software is like US$20 or $30. It works!! I did it and you can too.

Well Seraph, peple do gravitate to others who have pleasant, musical or lyrical voices, in the same way that they gravitate to a good singer and not to one who sings out of tune.
The good news is that you can learn to sing in tune with your friends and that hypnotherapy can help you to do that, if you really want to.
The bad news is that it may take some work on your part since what you say and how you say it is an indicator of what is going on inside, so that will probably have to be addressed first. The rest willl follow.
