Would you become immortal if you could?
I was surfing the web the other day when I found ...[a] site. The guy says he can sell immortality in the form of magnetic rings...

[QUOTE]Would you become immortal if you could?
Nah, next time I want to come back as an eagle or hawk - a predator without anything feeding on me. :D

Immortality?
What if the whole world exploded (eventually, cause it probably will) and you... had to spend the rest of eternity floating in the void?
That could seriously suck.

Albert,
Can I ask you to very briefly take a mental step back and look again.
We're asked to focus on the idea that the ring simply works, and this is attractive because it promises a tantalizing shortcut to a very positive outcome.
Remember that in medical treatment, from therapy to surgery, there are, as you know, many interlocking factors that must all work together for a positive outcome. I'm sure you can think of a few in the realm of the "talking" therapies such as hypnosis. We can even rank these factors in well-understood orders and see how different orders create different outcomes.
Can you thnk of any factors other than simple belief that have a bearing on the promised positive outcome of wearing one of these rings? No, neither can I.
...testamonials [on that site] are due to his clients generalising initially that the ring will work and not performing this stepping back to assess whether this is a sensible belief to hold. It's simply more attractive to believe it will work because it'd be a great shortcut to eternal life.
After spending money on such shortcuts and other "undiscovered" miracle cures, people will tend to claim, for good psychological reasons, that they in some way "feel better", and will even enthuse pseudoscientifically about "energy" and the like when asked to explain how they work. Here's why:
Our ego process tends to make us reinforce beliefs we have worked out for ourselves over those we receive from a third-party, and promises of tantalising shortcuts are good at reducing the work required by the ego process to arrive at an internally generated belief.
Strangely, any evidence you can find for an inprovement in wellbeing (from just having a "good day" to the well-documented spontaneous remission) is used by the ego process to reinforce the view that the ring works rather than to question it. See how naturally reasonable doing that seems? You may even have thought, "well, it *might* be the ring doing it..." That's your ego process talking!
The ego process works hard to maintain a firewall between what we hold internally to be true and what others would have us believe. We must have solid ground upon which to operate reliably under changing circumstances and ego helps us to maintain the neccessary mental structural integrity.

pff.
I understand your replies, since someone decided my post was innapropriate and deleted the link and a few things I typed.
Anyways, if you had seen the site, you'd understand.
The guy on the site tells you how to make your own and everything, he doesn't even want everyone to buy them from him, he encourages you to make them on your own.
Besides that, the definition of immortality you're imagining is obviously not the same one he uses on the site. The rings couldn't possibly protect you if you were... say... shot in the head. They increase the magnetic waves that are already in your body several times. These magnetic waves help you heal, practically reverse aging, fight off diseases, cure disablities... etc.
One of you gave the example of the world blowing up and the person with the rings still floating through space... either you ignored everything the guy had to say, or someone deleted the link before you got here.
If the link I posted offended someone (the person who deleted it) I apologize for posting it.
I don't understand why it would offend anyone though, it's simple, if you don't want to use the link, don't click it. Someone else might! Leave it there for the people who choose not to completely ignore everything this man has to say because their minds filter it out, labling it "IMPOSSIBLE".
I'm also glad to see you're skeptical. Glad to see you don't just believe everything you read. I don't either, that's why I'm not paying this guy anything until I am satisfied by the results of rings I'll build myself.
Sorry, I'm not posting another link, it'll piss off whoever the authority figure here is. Wouldn't want to do that. x_X
If he/she wants to keep everyone ignorant, leaving them nothing to reply to me but their assumptions about these magic immortality rings they know nothing about, let him/her.

Ok fine, I will post it again afterall.
I decided that this topic was worthless since it contained no information without the link.
Please, Mr(s). Moderator, if you don't want anyone to read what this guy has to say, just delete the whole topic, no reason for these people to waste their time reading my (or anyone elses) posts if none of them know what I (or anyone else who gets a chance to click the link before you remove it) am talking about....
The web site in question claims to sell cures for "aging, diabetes, asthma, heartburn, cancer, etc." and sells the cures for $25-over $250.
We currently do not allow advertising on this forum. Sorry.

tell the guy with the site he'd have a better chance after a few generations, when he's 350 years old (which also means that he proved his success)... then he can sell it for $25,000 or more...
heck, who knows... we might live 500 years and cause more damage! how scary is that...
