I had to log in to renew my membership. To get rid of bots they used a question: Is boiling water hot or cold? I doubt this would help with the spam tho.

Actually, it could be a good way of dealing with bots if our software could implement it. I don't know--that would be where Matt comes in.
Right now, "regular" users shouldn't be seeing any spam. It just takes up my time and Skips time deleting it.

Hi, Poodle.
As Don says it can be a good way of dealing with bots (spam machines), and in more technical terms it is often called a "question CAPTCHA".
This forum uses "Image CAPTCHA", the little picture with letters (that often are skewed and a bit hard to read).
For different reasons I prefer Question CAPTCHA myself. One reason, that I think I mentioned in one of the other spam threads, is that spammers are able to "break" Image CAPTCHA. They (or rather competent programmers/mathematicians) know how to create software that extract letters from images. This science is often called OCR (Optical Character Recognition) or Digital Image Processing.
I have never created such software myself, but in my next life when I have more time, it will be an exiting challenge :eek: .

Henrik - I have a difficult time trying to read a lot of the characters/letters. On Vista it will read them outloud for me but then the sound is sooo distorted I still have no idea on occasion.
Now I have to figure out how to make my printer happy with my pc again. I guess they were separated too long while pc was getting an overhaul - AGAIN!!

is sooo right. This "shicsa" had it go out AGAIN. Only $130 this time. I would have fixed it myself but I have no access to XP parts around here. I stole a HP from my brother to salvage parts for the next episode.

You can play with software and come up with a super program for us here that deletes all bots and posters that post just cuz...
