Merlin,
I just finished reading your FAQ. You say, "Achieving somnambulism in a subject should take one minute or less. The commonly used progressive relaxation methods of inducing hypnosis often never achieve somnambulism."
I'm curious: Do you know of any books or web sites that support this statement? (Not that I don't believe you; I'm just curious to learn more about why this is.) Also, how do *you* go about doing this, especially in such a short period of time? Finally, does this statement apply to first-time "hypnotees" or clients as well? (I'm assuming it would certainly apply to those whom have been hypnotized (by a professional, that is) before and those whom you have worked with before and have a rapport with.)
Sincerely,
HighFlight

You need to belive you can do it, and your client needs to belive you can do it, thats all you need, belief, thats it, its an act, works better on people you dont know. I belive you should only ever use it to help people, for good positive reasons, not for entertainment, it is an excellent tool, IN THE RIGHT HANDS, I consider myself to be a learner, and i have recieved full training and i am under supervision, i would only work with basic cases.
But i have also been taught that if you ever try to control someone or make them do something out of their belief sytem, they would imediately exit the trance, so this suggests that it is impossible to use it in the wrong way!
i know thats got nothing to do with your thread, just think aloud i guess

>I'm curious: Do you know of any books or web sites that support this statement?
which of the 2 statements do you refer to?
>Also, how do *you* go about doing this
This?
>especially in such a short period of time?
Somnambulism?
I use hypnosis.
>Finally, does this statement apply to first-time "hypnotees" or clients as well?
Yes, for first timers "progressive relaxation methods of inducing hypnosis often never achieve somnambulism."
If you are referring to somnambulism, the trainer *Dave Elman* would require all his students be able to achieve somnambulism in one minute or less.
If you can clarify, I will try to answer further.

>I'm curious: Do you know of any books or web sites that support this statement?
which of the 2 statements do you refer to?
The statement(s) I and you, yourself, quoted from our FAQ.
>Also, how do *you* go about doing this
This?
This = achieving somnambulism in a minute or less.
>especially in such a short period of time?
Somnambulism?
I use hypnosis.
Heh...well, that's a given. I was hoping for something a little more specific, or is this one of those questions that shouldn't be answered publicly?
>Finally, does this statement apply to first-time "hypnotees" or clients as well?
Yes, for first timers "progressive relaxation methods of inducing hypnosis often never achieve somnambulism."
If you are referring to somnambulism, the trainer *Dave Elman* would require all his students be able to achieve somnambulism in one minute or less.
I'm a bit more confused by this answer. What I was trying to get at was: Using whatever method it is you use, is it, in general, just as easy for "first timers" to reach somnambulism as non-"first-timers."
Thanks,
HighFlight

>Do you know of any books or web sites that support this statement?
1 minute somnambulism: Dave Elman: "Hypnotherapy" for one.
>progressive relaxation methods
The list is big.
>how do *you* go about doing this, especially in such a short period of time?
Simple hypnosis
Instant inductions only take a couple of seconds.
>>>especially in such a short period of time?
>>Somnambulism?
>>I use hypnosis.
>Heh...well, that's a given
Is it? Then why is one-minute somnambulism questioned?
The methods I use work for first time hypnotees.
It works just fine for new hypnotists who are well taught too.
