Hi there

I'm quite new to NLP , have been reading about it for the past couple of weeks and I'm quite interested in attending training sessions in the US or the UK

if any one has suggestions or experience with training centers and academies I'd be glad to know

right now I'm looking into
Advanced Neuro Dynamics , Hawaii
The NLP and Coaching Institute of California
Hidden Resources

also books suggestions would be appreciated

Best Regards

Hello "new guest"... so lovely not to know the names (or chosen nicks) of new people.. mysterious. :-)

Just do a simple search in this forum for "nlp training" and you'll get tons of suggestions.

To make your list a bit more professional, add NLP University (nlpu.com) with Robert Dilts to it, and maybe also Neuro-Semantics of Michael Hall...

In addition, before you choose a training you might want to read an article called " how to choose a good NLP training? (http://www.nlpweekly.com/?p=22) "

And of course - welcome aboard! all the best of luck and success

Shlomo

Hello Shlomo

so now I got a nick name , happy ? :)
Thanks for the info , I found your article to be useful , along with other articles on your site that looked interesting

the serach didn't turn out much results , it ignores the word "nlp" and training is mentioned in few posts in issues not necessarily related to training centers

probably I'll keep looking and making lists of cneters for the coming weeks , till I can reach a better understanding of NLP in general , and which aspects I'd want to focus on

in the mean time , I'm checking amazon for some books
so far , my shopping cart has

Nlp : The New Technology - Nlp Comprehensive;
The Structure of Magic: A Book About Language and Therapy (Structure of Magic) - Richard Bandler;
Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming

I'm assuming these readings would be useful for someone new to NLP to cover the main topics and basic practices ?
anyone has other suggestions regarding books/cd's/DVD's ?

Thanks

Merlin,

may I ask how you came to recommend Carmine- was it taking training from him or in a different way?

Moe,

For a list of books, check the thread in the hypnosis forum "Assistance (or maybe Help) with failed attemps" then go to the reply by Skip that starts "This is by no means exhaustive".

Well, they're all good books, but I'm not sure I'd recommend any of them to a complete newcomer.

You could check out:

http://www3.mistral.co.uk/bradburyac

Over 160 book reviews ("most" of them on NLP books), 19 FAQs, a links page and a fairly extensive glossary of NLP terms.

As to training outfits - you need to understand that even in NLP most people recommend on the basis of who they LIKE rather than on whether a trainer is any good. Having first hand experience of several of the trainers named so far, that's already happened here, IMO - but I'll avoid a flame war by NOT naming any names. ;)

Unfortunately you don't seem to have indicated which country you are in.
If you're in the UK and/or if you want genuinely focused training with people who understand the specifics of applying NLP to the business context I'd recommend PPD Learning:

http://www.ppdlearning.co.uk (http://www.ppdlearning.co.uk/)

For another bite on the "how to choose your trainer"-cherry you might like to look here:

Hope this helps

Be well

Hi Jim,

A different way.
I could be wrong, but I understood Skip got training from him.

I highly *respect* Skip.

I don't always agree with him, still I respect his skills.

Heard of Carmine from other sources too.
I may get a training one day.

Carmine used to have a bunch of articles on his web site that were really nice. He seems to be under construction for some time now, wonder what's going to come out of it :) .

Anyways moe,
If the articles are put back you might find them interesting and be able to decide better.

I did get my first, and for several years, all of my training from Carmine.

And if you train with him you WILL learn.

There is a catch tho.

Carmine uses unconscious installation extensively. I understand the value of it. You learn very fast and you learn very well.

There is a big downside tho. You dont have conscious knoweledge of what you are doing. You do it and do it well, but you dont consciously know it. That is very unsatisfying consciously.

People want both conscious and unconscious competence, Carmines aim is conscious incompetence, unconscious competence.

So I would come back from Carmine's trainings trancing people out, and accomplishing their, and my outcomes, without realizing what I was doing. Without being able to describe what I was doing.

So I followed up Carmine's trainings with other trainings that taught on a more conscious level. This actually set me back some, from a performance point of view, but I did have the satisfaction of knowing that I knew.

I recommend Carmine highly. If you want to see NLP used in a masterful way, on, or perhaps even a level that surpasses Bandler, go to Carmine. And you will be in a room with 30 people, instead of 300. At least you will understand something of the potential this technology has to offer. You will also learn. But you arent likely to feel the satisfaction, that tells you you have learned something. You will have to trust the process.

You might consider going somewhere else, learning the basics, and then attending some Carmine trainings to get those skills down to the bone level. I do know people who did it this way. I also know people who have done it the way I did, who have gone on to great success.

I also know some people who went to Carmine and came away unsatisfied, and are still unsatisfied. I think Jim R is one of them, and you might want to hear his expewriences as well.

I also know at least two people who trained with Carmine who have gone on to be very good self promoters, claiming that they learned nothing from Carmine, while teaching a watered down version of what Carmine teaches. So it goes.

What does all this mean?

No matter who you go to, go hungry, as hungry as you have ever been. Go with the intention that no matter what you are going to squeeze everything there is to offer out of the time.

I no longer go to trainings, and combine them with socializing.

I go and I take as many notes as the trainer will allow. I make sure I am first to perform the exercises in my group, so I dont pollute my mind watching someone else do poorly, what was just demonstrated well. I dont eat lunch or supper with anyone, to discuss anything, I use that time to review mentally, to play back, everything that went on so far. I dont go out in the evening, I go to my room and I practice perfectly everything. And I give myself instruction that while sleeping I relive the training repeatedly, until I can morph myself into the insrtuctor, and do exactly what they are doing perfectly. In this way, instead of only getting say 20 hours of training in a weekend like everyone else, I get 48.

Now thats not because I am anti social, I would love to go party hardy. I just recognize that I have a window of precious opportunity, and I am not going to waste a moment, Im gonna squeeze out all I can.

hope that helps,

Hi New

As Skip mentioned ,there are individuals, including myself, who's experience with Carmine was WAY LESS than satisfactory. I can offer you a review of a training I took from him(Powers of Persuasion circa Oct 1998 I believe). granted the training I took wasn't recent (nor was Skip's) and I can't deny trainers can improve with time(and they better!). The training I took from him was after having attended training from several other NLP trainers as well as several I've taken training from since then,so the opinion is/ was based on a informed comparison.

aside from that, Skip's posting offers some good practical advice about how to get more from a training.

Parsa

actually the articles ARE online still

http://carmine.net/articles/

it doesn't have a link in the main page though , I found it while searching for his site

now I wonder if they'll be happy to know that google search for "Carmine Baffa NLP" takes you to the middle of the site , not the main page ;)
