If you were to make a conscious decision to change your personality type is this practically possible?

I find myself as an INTP and describe my self as extremely introvert and living in an very Internal world (Inside my own mind)

I really want to change to become more Extrovert.

Also in the grand scheme of things can an Introvert only move to different levels of Introvertness (moving up the scale if you like) instead of becoming Extrovert.

Also im alarmingly too comfortable spending time with my self where i want to change my beliefs to have the "need" to socialize and be around others rather then avoiding social settings.

Can hypnotherapy aid with this or is the brain very resistant to change?

Thanks for your time.

First off, we all no advertising to commercial sites as you had in your previous post. If you want to ask a legitimate question, then ask it instead of giving our moderators more work to do.

Secondly, I certainly would not use hypnosis for changing of personality. NLP would be much faster and easier. What exactly is wrong with being introverted and spending time in your own mind. What or who actually knows you better than you?

Be well,
Pood

Hypnotherapy is about the changing of behaviors.

It doesn't matter whether you are what you're calling "introverted" or "extroverted." You think you're introverted. Another person might look at what you do and dream of being as extroverted as they think you are.

If you want to work with hypnotherapy, forget the psychobabble labels and start thinking in terms of hypnotherapy. If you want psychotherapy to deal with personality and -verts, go ahead.

I have no idea what being "too comfortable spending time with [your]self" even means. Of course, it doesn't matter what it means. What matters is what specific behaviors you want to end and what specific behaviors you want to begin exhibiting.

We cannot give you therapy over the internet. If you want to change your behaviors, by all means consult with a local hypnotherapist. He or she will be able to help you.

The problem I have with your post is that you have a very "mushy" concept of what "personality" is. It would seem that to you, personality is simply a combined set of behaviors. You label one set of behaviors "introvert" and another "extrovert" and say you prefer one to the other. Personally, I think that being able to be either an introvert or extrovert when I want to be would be far better than limiting myself to one or the other, don't you think?

So here is my suggestion. Forget personality. Forget extrovert/introvert. Instead, focus on what behaviors you would like. Would you like to be able to speak to strangers more easily? Would you like to feel more comfortable in groups? Write down a list of the behaviors you'd like to incorporate. Take that list to a local hypnotherapist.

Good luck!

Some good advice from Pood and Don. I would only add that, providing you are not mentally ill or of very low intelligence you can change any behavioural aspect of what you might term your personality with either hypnotherapy, NLP or a combination of the two. The degree to which you can effect change is something else.

Rather than examining what you would like to change you could ask yourself : what aspects of my personality am I happy with? Bear in mind that changes in one area may have knock-on effects in other areas.

A good therapist will be able to help you 'try on' various behaviours to see if they are ecologically sound (sit comfortably with the rest of you) before proceeding with a full behavioural change.

Poster, you have been around for some time now, and it seems to me that you CHOOSE to waste time here, knowing that we cannot help online, when your time would be better spent investigating locals who might be able to help you. Yes I know you will resent this comment, I intend that you do in order to make you think about your real intent. Now tell us why this is so or get on with your life as others do....

Jack true Jack, but you feed and care for your dog, so he is not living on bones alone. Collector has nobody and needs guidance or he will starve, he is not equipped to survive in this world with all those problems he keeps reasurecting for our consideration....:)
I think he gets whatever he reads about. I have heard of such people, we call then introverts because they are jealous of others having something they don;t have, so they get it as soon as they hear about it..... He would be a gem for some practitioner if he had money, since he would become a permanent client......

Well, in a way we are here to help people solve their problems, not through online therapy, but perhaps by pointing them in the right direction to get help, which we all try to do. I try not to forget that behind all these 'handles' there are actual people and I am not aware of the extent of their difficulties, so even if there are repeated postings for a list of problems it costs me nothing except a little time to respond and I can stop whenever I like if it appears fruitless.

Ah, The Legend of The Permanent Client, Terry - I once had one who proved to be semi-permanent since she found a younger therapist who charged higher fees, so was obviously better - it was a great relief when she went!

I'm an INTP.
I love it!

Yes, it's changeable with hypnosis.

Labels schmables! I'm with Don. What do you want to do, what behaviors do you want to change, how do you want to feel? Then seek out an NLP professional to help you.

Bingo.

Accept your client's labels and you're frequently wrong. Perhaps my most necessary question to clients who label themselves?

"I see. What, exactly, makes you believe that?"

Personally, i often enter the client's model.
it's easier than retraining them.
