Hi,
I was wandering if any of you have had any success with using hypnosis or similar techniques to treat eyesight problems?
I have been reading about the Bates Method (http://www.central-fixation.com/batesmethod.shtml) lately, more precisely the book Perfect Sight Without Glasses (http://www.central-fixation.com/library.shtml#perfectsight) by William H. Bates, and was quite fascinated by it. Some of the chapters especially caught my attention, like the chapter on central fixation (http://www.central-fixation.com/perfect/chapter11.htm), and the chapters on memory (http://www.central-fixation.com/perfect/chapter13.htm) and imagination (http://www.central-fixation.com/perfect/chapter14.htm).
Does any of you have had any success with using hypnosis and/or the Bates method to treat eyesight problems?
It seems to me that hypnosis would be the ideal way to implement the Bates method.
I would very much like to rid myself of my myopia, so if anyone has some suggestions on how to best do this, I would be very thankfull.

OK I hear you, but is there any reason why glasses or laser surgery are not on your list of how too's? After all Hypnosis is not a panacia for everything, and most of us would hesitate to mess with someones sight......
Hypnosis has been used successfully with myopia, but not astigmatism.
One of the prerequisites seems to be that at some point in your life you have had 20/20 or acceptable vision, but that may not be a hard and fast rule.
The Bates method does work remarkably well too, but you gotta do the drills.
Yes, I do think there are good reasons why glasses or laser surgery are not on the list. Some of the reasons are in Bates' book in the chapter What Glasses Do To Us (http://www.central-fixation.com/perfect/chapter8.htm). I've had some short flashes of clear unaided vision after trying out the Bates methot. I would say that these flashes are uncomparably better than any corrected vision I've ever had. There are more reasons too, without going to deeply into what.
I use contacts when I have to. But Lasik is absolutely not an option for me.
I had 20/20 vision when I was very young, so that sounds promising. The Bates method seems to have worked remarkably well for at least Bates' patients. Unfortunately he has been dead for a long time now. I have the feeling that he unconsciously used some sort of Ericksonian hypnosis himself while treating his patients, without realizing himself that this was what he did - and that this may explain his tremendous success rate.

Terry, glasses are like crutches to a broken leg. While it helps, isn't healing the leg better?

Terry, glasses are like crutches to a broken leg. While it helps, isn't healing the leg better? Ahha, so our friend is looking for a "cure", and feels that bypassing the crutches will aid in that? OK, I always thought one took one step at a time to reach a goal, and bypassing any step negated the process......On the other hand, believing one persons writting to the extent of negating other processes that are known to give relief at least, seems to be going to the extreme without any really valid information don't you think? I once tried some so called glasses made from fine screening instead of glass or plastic, and they did give results that were interesting, and indeed might be considered as a success if used to break up the suns rays, but I would hardly be inclined to trust my eyes to them totally. What they were perported to do was focus the eyeball for improved sight, and certainly they did do that.
