Hello people my name is Thomas but I sorta like Dr. George as a stage name. Anyways I've been studying hypnosis for some time now and I've ordered a book about it too. The problem I'm having is putting my first subject under hypnosis. I've given them tests and they passed but when it comes to putting them under I just seem to flatline it. So any advice for a newbie?

It's good that you have ordered a book. You need to order many more, get some training and understand what you are doing before being let loose on the unsuspecting public.

You may also have a problem with using 'Dr.' unless you are one. It's called fraud and is probably highly illegal where you are.

Successful hypnosis requires two levels of trust.

Your subject has to trust you.

And you have to trust yourself.

I would suspect that both are missing, but I cannot know that for sure.

Studying 'for some time' and having ordered a book, would not engender a lot of confidence, on my part, either as a subject, or as the hypnotist.

And when you are honest with yourself, you dont trust yourself either, because you KNOW that 'studying for some time' and ordering a book isnt sufficent.

The key IMO would be to solve the trust issue you can solve; in the knowlege that doing that will go a long way towards solving the other trust issue.

The easiest and fastest way to do that, would be to go somewhere where they teach hypnosis live and learn and practice in that enviornment.

But you already knew that didnt you?

Next you might say you cannot get real training even though you would like to, because it is too expensive, far away, time consuming, or some combination.

And if that is the case, I would suggest you spend even more time 'studying' and order a few more books.

If that sounds flippant to you, or sarcastic, it sounds that way; because it is.

Being sarcastic makes it no less true.

I put it to you sarcastically so that you would both hear it, and reject it.

The successful people here have studied a lot, and have lots of books, which they read and study, and read again, and mark up, and make notes about, and they have attended many live trainings.

That is because they WANTED it. They wanted it so bad, they were willing to put other things on hold, and do what they had to do, to get it, and learn it well.

I can tell from what you have, so far, done, that you dont WANT it badly enough.

You would LIKE it, but you dont yet WANT it.

And that is OK.

Liking it is fine, and wishing for it is fine.

But really WANTING it, will find a way, where just liking it or wishing for it, wont.

cheers,

Ok your right I really don't have much confidence about this. What are some good books I could order?

BOOKS... There are no bad books, and no books that will allow you to practise with confidence, so all books deserve to be read, and you will learn from all of them. Yes Merlin has a book list if you look for it, but since all have value I doubt anyone wishes to tell you what already exists.
TRAINING....I personally like the idea of taking a training before reading too much, since you may need to unlearn something you read and misunderstood when you enter into your FIRST training. Yes, you wll need more than one training course, and not just weekend ones.
Now my guess is that you are still too young to be free to take such training, and time also is a problem. However, you do have choices, you can see problems as stumbling blocks, or stepping stones, and the choice can only be made by you. How you behave from now on will show the sort of practitioner you would make, and you will be both judge and jury on the results.... Remember, the one person you can never fool is YOU....
One final remark. This subject has been discussed many times and continuing will be a waste of our time. Please respect that and do your own research.....

You can always read Merlin's FAQ for a place to start.

Respect is earned - not a privilige. ;)

It can be really nice to have a Certified Hypnotherapist and Instructor for a friend. I had a job shadow young lad this summer. He has a keen interest in hypnosis but he knows it has to be done correctly. I have no problem with him calling me on the phone and asking questions in the evenings. They are good questions that more people should probably ask. Watching me work with his father he became aware of things I do that I don't even realize I do as it is just sooo instinctual from great trainings. He isn't to the book buying stage yet but he sure watches a lot of YouTube and then wants me to explain it all to him. He has good money saved up from working all summer and he is holding out for a REAL training after he becomes a licensed psychologist or whatever. He has the computer skills down but knows he will have to also take accounting at university.

Maybe your school could do something like that considering the fact that you are in 10th, 11th or 12th grade. I'm sure there are many students that would like to job shadow many occupations.

There was a stage hypnotist hired for "The Last Blast" right before graduation. I had a houseful of "young adults" wanting to know if's and how's when it was over.

Be well,
Pood :)

I actually I just graduated High School and I've always been interested in Hypnosis so while I have more time on my hand I figured I'd try my best to learn it. There aren't many hypnotist around where I stay but I've been looking for someone to help me.

Whoa. You mean mom and dad just let you do as you please with no job and no plans for the future? Between 8th and 9th grades I had to lie about my age so I could work. I worked the whole summer until 2 or 3am every night and managed to have enough money to buy one pair of contact lenses and a beautiful sweater. You see, I REALLY WANTED THEM and I had asked Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa and got resounding NO's. I wanted them sooo much that I made my dream come true. Then I had to do janitorial work all through 10, 11 and 12th. I graduated at the top of my class of over 1,000 students having never missed the Honor Roll. I was also taking university classes while in high school. Then came university and I did not take Mickey Mouse courses. I was in the sciences. Everything I did made me a much stronger and better person.

I really can't remember a summer off with time on my hands.
