Simply, is there a way to convince one's self to enter deeper hypnosis, because I have trouble getting any deeper than a light trance, no matter what.

Which do you seek?
Hypnosis or trance.

apparently, i do not quite understand the difference; assume i mean trance.

also, as a tag-on question (although i'm sure it is frequently asked), can anyone enter a somnambulistic state, and if so, can it be self-induced? if it cannot, how can it be induced (i mean other than 2 and a half hours of relaxation)?

Yes

Yes.

Yes.

By hypnosis.

Yes.

ok, thank you for that clarification. now, if i may ask, how can it be self induced (by hypnosis, i'm guessing). i'm not asking for a script, but for a general outline of what to do, and maybe what mindset to have. again, thank you.

Use a hot bathtub or whatever makes you feel comfortable. Relax, and accomodate one of the usual hypnosis scripts to your needs...

I found it helpful, by the way, to talk to myself in the way I would probably do if I was to hypnotise another person. It's kinda funny to use a "suggestive", "hypnotic" voice within myself. *g* But it works, no doubt.

I am a skilled and able Hypnotist.

And yes you can be hypnotised right now and not even be aware of it. Reading for example is a perfect demonstration of how easily people drop into trances as they are reading. Just as getting into a bathtub can be relaxing and hypnotic in some respects.

You may be in a deep trance but your questioning the suggestions you are making. Just because its not working yet does not mean you have failed to go deep into a trance. You must learn with repetition to just let go and trust your unconscious mind to take over and make the changes.

Im sure the next time you try to go into trance you will slip into it with ease just letting getting into a warm bath.

Enjoy it rpglover64.

As a matter of interest, why do you want to enter a somnambulistic state via self hypnosis?

Merlin

I strongly recommend you have another person lead you there.

i have this problem. The best thing to do is to get another hypnotist to take you to the desired state and then anchor it.

whether you think you can, or whether you think you cant, youre probably right!

"Hypnosis is a particular trance" : from your very own FAQ. But your question implies that hypnosis is not a trance in the same way as saying "what do you seek, a BMW or a car?" implies that a BMW isn't a car!

Hello Linguist,

I understand your query.
The original posting seemed to use the terms interchangably to me, so I asked to have it clarified.

>>is there a way to convince one's self to enter deeper hypnosis, because I have trouble getting any deeper than a light trance,

Since the hypnosis may be entered with any trance 'level'.

i agree, but i don't know what to think

i did not intend to use the terms interchangebly, although i believe i misused trance (my intended use of it was simply as a level of depth).

Hello,

It's common to interchange the two. Most people do.
Even Dr. Erickson did.
Some of us stop mixing them when we find a difference between them.
Many people never find the difference and continue to mix the terms.

Since I know there is a difference, I try to clarify for my communications with others here.

There are many levels of trance. Some include hypnosis. Many don't.

So, what I was trying to ask is just more specifically what you were seeking.

Regarding the original question, I know a way. It's from "An Insider's Guide to Submodalities."

This is just the way; I guess from here one would go one of two ways:

a. 'jump into' the kind of exercise one was conceiving originally.

b. anchor? this deep trance state and be able to pull it up into consciousness whenever.

I say anchor? because I always practice hypnosis by myself so I have never seen someone anchor responses.

OK, what you do is you see a picture of yourself in front of you, nice and big.
Then, a small while later, have the picture go far away in your mind's eye. But be sure to have the picture of yourself be nice and big just as it was when it was close to you. Then, some time later, have the picture come back, close to you. Then have it go far away some time later.

If you keep doing this by the third cycle, boom, you'll be in la-la land.
