Anyone care to offer a definition of self-mastery?

Aberham Maslo's actualized man.

In NLP the theory is that 'complete congruency' is desirable, I suspect that might apply.

Skip,

Maslow's writings, yes, as you reminded me. Also, Emerson's essay: "Self-Reliance."

In one word, "Perfection".... The path to perfection in the words o' Robert Burns "Oh wud the lord the gift ta gee us, ta see ourselves as others see us.....

A very scarry thought for most......(G)

Ah another Burns fan!

"Some tales are lies from end to end ...

and some great lies were never penned ... (all puns intended I assume)

Yea ee'n preachers, the truth will rend ...

while in the bounds of holy rapture ...

And nail it down with scripture!"

The Devil and Dr. Hornsby Robert Burns, with apologies for taking 'translation' liberties.

I've always wondered how come, though Burns was openly alcoholic, he was also a Duty Man.

Is self-mastery like the "Master of my Domain" episode on Seinfield?
:)

Cognito ergo potato

I think therefore I yamI couldn't resist showing off the benefits of a classical education one last time, tee hee:

Cogito cogito ergo cogito sum - I think that I think, therefore I think that I am.

Well, I thought it was funny...

Thanks for the unintentional reminder Skip, I have two sweet potatoes in the fridge, got with the intent to use them over christmas, and forgotten because we weren't home. Must cook them tomorrow I guess, I hate waste.

Skip and Terry,

With this talk of potatoes and yams, I'm reminded of the poignant
statement of authenticity and self-acceptance by one of my favorite
philosophers: "I yam what I yam and I'll be what I yam." -- Popeye.

So when Moses asks God at the Burning Bush for his name and God answers, "I yam that I yam," God was hiding the secret that he was really Popeye?
