I'm almost 33 years old and have recently began to remember some 'scenes' from my childhood. I don't know if these are an imaginery work of fiction; possibly recalling a movie or if they are in fact real. Can anyone give advice as to where I should begin with researching my past?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Hypnosis would help you 'find memories'
But hypnosis would not tell you if the memories are real or fabricated.

I would use slightly different terms than Merlin.

Your memories are absolutely real to you. What you're asking, I suppose, is whether or not the memories are objectively factual.

But is that important? You're having recall of certain memories now. IMO a more important question is "Why?" Why these memories and not others? We store and manipulate our memories in our unconscious minds. What is your unconscious mind trying to tell your conscious with these memories?

Here is some good news: those memories have been in your unconscious for some time. Your unconscious now thinks that your conscious is ready to deal with them. In short, you are ready to go through an important breakthrough in your life.

You could probably go to a psychologist and spend many months figuring out what's going on. You could go to a psychanalyst and spend years doing the same thing. You could leave it alone and have a "revelation," perhaps at an unwanted time. Or maybe your unconscious, after numerous communication attempts, will conclude that you're not ready for the information it's trying to share and cease providing the partial memories.

Or you could go to a qualified hypnotherapist and answer all of your questions in a few sessions.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.

I agree with both of the replies you have recieved, but suggest that you might well start by questioning relatives rather than paying a practitioner before you need to....Obviously there exists some embarrassment since you offer so little information, but relatives are surely people to be trusted in general?

I'd be tempted to write down all the things you remember and place them into years in as much detail as possible. A good place to start is remembering the teachers you had each year of your school days and what significant events happened in each of those school years. This is to ensure that you get used to recalling facts rather than creating memories you think should be right. Keep expanding on this by writing in ancilliary memories. Okay, some of it will be wrong, but it'll serve you as a general record of which you can ask others questions about what happened to you, and you can cross reference whatever they say (or can't remember themselves).

I feel that way too sometimes. I am only a teen though. I am in process of finding a free hypnotherapy to help me uncover my past. I talked to my pastor about it and he approved as long as it is under clinic of doctors who are trained and not a bunch of satanic occult idiots. But I know what you mean and how you feel. Because I want to uncover something that might've happened to me. So I can report it. I survived years of child abuse and domestic violence and still kinda am. I won't run away because I won't change, so until I get what I need and a hypnotherapy, I won't report a single thing.

My advice....... GO GET HYPNOTHERAPY!!!!!

Hypnotheraphy is suppose to help you REGAIN your memories. It has nothing to do with telling you if it's fake or created. Because some people get hypnotherapy and they remember things that they think never happened. But it did. And as a witness and 100% believer of God, I approve and so does my pastor... of this method of getting your memories when you've locked them away.

Well... I do do that alot. I write in my Prayer Book to God. Because He is important to me. I usually tell him about my feelings. I also tell my journal, Zell the same info I tell God.

It should be noted that different Christian authorities have different opinions about hypnotherapy. Some are 100% against it and denounce it in their writings. Some believe it is okay under certain circumstances and for certain purposes. Others have no problem with it.

Interestingly, these leaders all claim to be "Biblically based," so what this really shows is that if you're clever enough, you can find backing for just about any position in the bible.

Lady C,

You mentioned reporting. Hypnotherapy can be contraindicated to
any legal action pursuant to reporting. It has happened that
prosecuters have refused to prosecute in various abuse cases
because information provided has been obtained by, or possibly
influenced by hypnosis. Local domestic abuse centers may be
able to provide you with some helpful information and direction.

I would add to Simple Guy's post by saying that this varies by jurisdiction. What you hear from someone in another city or state may be different from what is allowed in your state.

I note young lady, that you put great store on the opinion of your pastor, and I aprove. He has taken the time to study the bible, or at least I assume he had, so he must be something of an expert on that subject by now.....I doubt you would offer him any argument on matters of faith, am I correct? Well, unlike your pastor, some of us took different paths and followed different lifestyles, and had different experiences, and learned different things, just as no doubt will you....
I for example have studied hypnosis for thirty five years, probably as long as your pastor has studied the bible, so I know much less about the bible than does your pastor, but I know considerably more about hypnosis I would suggest, yet you argue with the experts on this board, myself included who together have so many years of experience, just because your pastor says something you have probably not properly understood anyway. When consulting the expert, always allow the possibility that they know more than you do on one subject. At no time should you allow the fact that someone is an expert in one area, to bring you to the conclusion that they are smarter than you in all areas.....
I suggest you print all replies you have received to date, an show them to your pastor before telling us how it MUST be because he said so. Now, go with God, and seek the help you need........
