Hi everyone.
I'm coming to the end of an intensive course in clinical hypnotherapy and NLP.
I have my assessment in a few days' time, and in true ambiguous therapy stylee, we've not been told what's involved!
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to what might be required of me in the assessment, or of anything I can do to control my nerves and feelings of inadequacy please:confused: ?!

Hi Cambia,
First off, welcome to the forum. If people were to say what was involved
for them, that info. may or may not be applicable for you and could,
even with the best of intentions, increase your apprehensions. Your
instructors probably have good reason to have been "ambiguous" about
the assessment. Were I you, I'd probably trust their judgement about
choosing to be ambiguous (or I'd likely not have trained with
them, as I choose instructors carefully). Sometimes, we
who are trained, forget to apply-to-self what we have learned.
And when we do remember and use what we know, often we find
that we are more capable than we thought we were,
in evaluations and other settings. I wish you a fun and
successful evaluation experience. Let us know how well you do. :)

Yep! You're going to do great!
In various trainings I've had (including with Richard Bandler), the build up--in this case what they wanted to see us create or perform while being filmed--was meant to be somewhat "frightening." Maybe. Or overwhelming. The reality was it was fun and nothing intimidating. If you've been paying attention in the course, or even not, if they were good instructors, the stuff is IN THERE. Don't sweat it.
As far as controlling your nerves, you have the tools yourself. Use them!!! Those nice little NLP processes you learned.

Here's another thought. Check out the previous discussions here about unconscious competence and conscious competence. I'm betting (judging from the clarity and intelligence I see in your posts) that you've successfully learned. You just don't know that you know. Yet! This positive assessment will help you believe it consciously.

Thanks Connie!
My problem is letting out that knowledge so it stops being "conscious knowledge"!
I guess my nervous energy (oh yes, it's excitement these days, isn't it?!) would be better used if I put it towards passing the assessment!
Bring it on!

It's only a test, just like sooooo many previously that you did wonderfully on. How about a trip back in time to one, two or three of those previous tests where you did so well and enter into that experience, anchor it and then bring it back with you to now. Feels great doesn't it and that's exactly how you are going to do this current test. Just feeling great and allowing the answers to flow.
Recently had a young lady that is to take the State Teacher's Certification test tomorrow. She told me "The page goes blank". I said: "You mean the letters just magically fly off the page and the page is totally blank?" No, that is not what she meant. She's a very smart lady and left knowing she will pass that test with total ease just as she has done with all the previous ones in her life. There are times when we make a mountain out of a moehill and decide one test is more important than another. A test is really only the teacher's (trainer's) means of knowing s/he taught you what you need to know.
Go kick some behind!

Thank you!
Will do a bit of anchoring later, once I've got my nagging inner voice to stop destroying my optimism...or even realistic-ness! (Hurrah, I made up a new word!).:D

All testing is merely a regurgitation of knowledge previously and recently learned, in other words, a means of finding out if you did the study you were supposed to do....DID YOU?... If so you have nothing to worry about. If not, there is only one thing to worry about, and that is finding the money and time to do it over because you were foolish the first time.:D
If however you were not nervous, I would be extremely worried about your first clients..... I hope you will find the time for much practise before entering the field of professional therapy???? I wish you well.....

Trust your unconscious mind, and it will do it all for you.
Break a leg (or maybe both :) )

In training, assessment pending...petrified!
What a fantastic opportunity the trainers have presented to you for you to practice some of your new-found skills. I would hazard a guess that somewhere in your training you was introduced to the meta-model and how it can be applied?
Another guess would be that you delved into the realms of submodalities and the ways in which we make sense of our experience?
So for example, you're thread heading (in training, assessment pending, petrified!)
(in this context)
how specifically are you petrified?
How do you do it?
what do you you see, hear, feel? = elicit the sub modalities.
As you are probably aware sometimes we make representations of events and place them in our future and it is possible the event has a negative outcome. As a result of our feed forward into the future we become concerned because it's not what we actually want, and the emotional drivers - i.e sub-modalities give is a feeling of (petrified).
you may wonder How have I not resolved this yet?
When will I stop it limiting me? etc.
Just hallucinate how all these questions can help in providing leverage as to the structure of a perceived problem you had?
You could just go beyond the problem, take a look back at the issue and notice what would you like to change?
once you have done that you may start to notice the numerous different ways you can choose to solve it now. then you may start to notice other things, and I'm wondering how you will know that when you are changing and experiencing things differently.
Get my drift?
Opportunities to learn spring up all the time, it's catching those opportunities and using them to learn that's the exciting part. I just took my opportunity and I am curious as to when now are you going to take yours ;)

What a bizarre day!
Having spent much of the course in a state of heightened awareness about the assessment day, when it came to it, I was nonplussed!
Totally not bothered at all, just keen to do my best!
My colleagues all expressed anxiety, whereas I honestly was calm!
I actually enjoyed my session, and feel so proud of myself, as it was a huge conceptual leap for me to believe that I could do this.
So guys, I'm a fully paid-up bona fide one of you now!
Thanks for your help! :D
